wheels turn at different speeds binding up the t-case and snapping it into 100000000000000000000 pieces

you can get away with 11% difference i think
but yer not really something you should do

Ruff did run 4.11 in the front and a 4.3 in the rear but i really dont know how that turned out

Not very pretty results,

Wind up etc, Hard to change out of 4x4 and the whole exploding transfer case thing.

If you try it hook up a video camera underneath focused on the transfer, would be funny to watch.

I doubt running anything but matching ratios is really a good idea.

this would be very bad,

imagine navigating a side slope and your front wheels are woundup so bad they break traction and send you over/sliding etc.

when your wheel spinning it wont be a problem, its when you are crawling in precarious positoons that will be a major problem. Also driving on bitumen for even short periods will cause significant windup and could lead to breakages very easily. (although according to some people driving on bitumen in 4wd is not a risk!!!!!!!!!!!)

why cant you get the same ratio diff?, different model diff housings front and back? or just to lazy/cheap :P

There was a thread on this in the zook section a couple of weeks ago from memory. I think CJ posted it.

I wouldnt do it with a hilux Transfer unless it was to finish a competition. Mine worked fine because i run a Rover Transfer that has a centre diff so unless the centre diff is locked it causes no problem at all.

Yup, simple answer - don't do it. Even running different tyres front/rear can cause wind up, and unless there's some wheelspin, breakage occurs. Ages back this was aksed, and I calculated the differnce in wheel speed with the exact ratios mentioned. Not pretty
