Won't start Hot - then misses if it does!

Hey all,

Just parted with a bit of hard earned cash for a 1989 Feroza with 200,000 kms on the clock.... Runs really nicely when cold and moving - needs a new manifold though (all rusted and stuff), and the bodywork has seen a few too many 4x4 trips, but anyway....

When hot (like a 10 minute drive or more), stop it, go to start and it is hard to turn over, then starts on maybe two cylinders, then three, then some revs for 4 - takes a while to start - slowly builds up to 1KRPM then you can touch the accellerator to move it....

Going to do an oil change today (who knows if the last owner maintained anything?), and ordered a new fuel filter, air filter, plugs, leads and rotor (have a new cap already).

Any idea's? Will the above do it or am I just doing the normal maintenance stuff?

Thanks guys
Drewe

I had something similair happen to mine. Would start fine when cold then when it got warm the revs would drop enough for it to stall and it would be a prick to start again.

Turned out that it was a coolant sensor.

Simple test - start it and run for 10 mins and then turn it off. If it has trouble re-starting, pull out your plugs and check that they are not swimming in fuel. You may find that you are getting spark in only 1 or 2 and that after a while it burns off the rest.

Found the problem - the head was leaking water into a cylinder :-(

Car has been at the shop for three weeks now - they have had the head fixed by a specialists, just waiting for them to put back on!

:-(

Oh well, at least I will know the history of it now!
