Handbreak problems

No not the misses. 86 county, every time I use the
handbreak it jams on. Have to belt the drum to realease it.
Real pain when your in a hurry. Is there a return spring or
something in the drum to realease it that may be stuffed???

Might be oil on the shoes. Is there oil dripping out the drain hole in front of the drum?

i would have thought that oil on the shoes would allow them to slip... not jam up

Think about grabby brakes. It gets gooey when mixed with the dust.
it really doesn't matter as he will have to pull it apart anyway.
"All will then be revealed" but he may need a new rear tcase seal and felt and a lot of brake cleaner.

Jeff,
I'm not sure about your model, but my 84 has 2 small rollers in the actuator for the brake shoes. These fall out when you disassemble and are easy to miss.
The handbrake doesn't work too well with 1 missing, and if both were missing it might give the problem you have.

Bush65 thanks for your tip about the rollers, they can
be missed easy, I thought they were just bits crap that
was helping to jam things up, until I washed it all up.
Dont think it had been cleaned in there for 10 years!!
Know wonder the thing wouldnt work pistons were rusty &
everything was gummed up, nothing could move freely
at all. Just 1 more job to cross off the list.
