Hey all.
Goin to mount a Warn Hi-mount on my Surf (custom bar).
The Surfs CAN be tempremental with cooling, so I want to block the grille opening as little as possible, and will make a slot in the bar, like ARB's.

Was thiking on mounting the control box under the bonnet, or MAYYYYBE inside the car, thinking it will be dryer etc.

Is there any negatives to this, besides voltage drop? Issues with steam from bogholes, heat from engine etc???

Not a comp truck by any means.

All opinions appreciated.....

Thanks,

Pat

Under the bonnet will be just fine. You may find it a pain in the arse to keep opening the bonnet to get to it though so consider running a switch in the cab to operate it. You will need to extend the wires from the control box to the winch too.

Run larger size cabling as to not increase the voltage drop.

Keep it as high and dry as possible...

Like Dave said, use larger size cable.

Remember current path is from the battery +ve terminal to the solenoid pack, then from solenoid to motor field terminal post, through field wiring to the other field terminal post, then back to 2nd solenoid, then from 2nd solenoid to the motor armature terminal post, through armature wiring and finally back along the earth lead to -ve battery terminal.

That is why the solenoid is normally close to the motor.

Thanks for that guys, just wanted to double check location was OK.

Questions:
1. Would 12mm dia. cable be ok, or do I need bigger cabling?

2. Winch doesn't have the boots over the motor terminals. Is it an issue?
Can I butcher some 90 deg spark plug ones to fit?

butcher something to fit and cover them in grease - the boots dont seal completely anyway.
