Chances are it would more likely just be the seal ;)
And from what i've seen, this leak could be factory as just about every zook has done this. ;) :P

It is not uncommon for any seal on a Sierra to leak, however there are usually reasons behind a leak happening ie. having been replaced recently and the new seal not being correctly placed/seated or a bearing/bearings behind the seal being crook or it simply can be worn. If the bearing is crook you can check for movement in the pinion by trying to move tailshaft at the end closest to the pinion.
