830mm high is plenty for me, not a fan of the huge ones, look s&*t I reckon.... 6dB should be fine for wheelin and cruisin on the tar shouldn't it?

when i bought my antenna i got told that 6db was good for around town because buildings wont intefere as much and 9db for open country. but i just run the 9db around town and it seems to work ok............

Height has fark all to do with quality of ariel. You can get short 6db that are better than the huge "real mean drive ute" ones.

all depends on the terrain you are wheeling in

When 4wd Monthly did a comparo on UHF radios a few years back the GMEs all received higher ratings than the equivalent Unidens.

Of course, some members of this board believe they're all biassed towards their advertisers, to take that with a pinch of salt.

I've got a GME 3200, and am very happy with it. Next time, now that I have a little more cash to splash, I'd buy the 3400 - or possibly one of those even flasher ones with more trickery. :D

Cheers,

Scott

Got no problems with my Uniden (think it's the UH-013).

I could cehck.

Din mounting and the front mount speaker was the keys for me.

Works good enough for what I want... in fact picks up a lot of chatter I dont wanna hear most of the time eaven with a $10 supercheap aerial.

I have a good 6db gain one but can't find it. Wouldnt hear anything but bs with a big aerial anyway.....

I've got a GME AM floating around too that's had no dramas either.

I have the Uniden 013. It's not bad, it's good at what it does and designed for (scanner, tight spaces) but i'll buy an Icom or GME next time.

I recently brought a GME after much research on alot of other forums, they claimed that the Unidens needed to have there transmit adjusted after a couple of years as they had attentuated (some where down to 3watt), but the GME were stable. Also the GME is Aussie made.

audio quality on the GME's is also better... few mates have both types and the quality of sound transmitted from GME is far superior..

You only need a 6db antenna if you are going out into the desert.

Whoever is trying to sell you a 6db needs a good smack.

Radios's to buy

1st Place (by far) = Icom IC400Pro
2nd Place (not to far of) = GME Electrophone
3rd Place (very very distant) = Uniden

If you are just doing weekend and local stuff you do not need a 6db you only need 4.5db.

I was about to say the same. Icoms are better again.
Talk to Brendon at "Just Communications." He could have used any one the market but he used an Icom.
