Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey fellas, I was just wondering...

I've dissassembled my spare front axle for a inspection and thorough rebuild, but now I want to store the housing without the diff and the shafts for a couple of months (very busy at the moment plus I have to source bearings and stuff). Is it nessesary to prevent the inner tubing from rusting? I've put the diff in a drum with old oil but I haven't got a tank large enough to fit the housing

What do you guys recommend ?(other than the fact that I shouldn't have disassembled it in the first place without not much spare time at hand.....)

would not hurt to coat it with lanoline spray it prevents rusting

Is that the same stuff that's on metal when you buy it from the shop. will WD40 do the job?

I don't think wd40 will protect for very long, it will just evaporate away quite quickly.

Stuff the holes with oily rags, get some bike chain lube - sprays on like a liquid, sets like a grease - coat functional areas like seal surfaces with it and store it away from humid areas or large temperature differences, just to prevent humidity/condensation on the inside of the housing.

Thanks fellas, happen to have a couple of cans of chain lube on the shelf, so I'll spray that on.
