hey guys i got a slight prob with the old GQ

when im around 70-80k,s the 4by get this extreme death shudder the whole fron end shakes really bad and ya have to put foot on brake slow down 10 or so ks then speed up
i mean you have got to really fight the wheel to keep it on the road any ideas?
im getting to the point im worried the wheels are going to fall off or somthing

thanx matthew

Thats happened with my '89 Maverick twice since I've owned it from new and both times I replaced the steering damper 'shocker looking thing' on the steering tie rod, and it fixed it. Its a nice cheap fix for what seems like, the whole front is about to drop off the car.

get a wheel alignment and ballance on the car (ballance issues will cause the death wobble) and check your bushes, always use the nissan rubber ones as the aftermarket poly ones flog out very easy and limit the flex.

Maybe Panard rod bushes too.

I've had customers come to me with this complaint , have performed wheel align. wheel bal. and bearing adj. but problem was still there,i then removed 2 shims from the top swivel bearing and have eliminated the problem.
car also had new steer. damper fitted before this fix.

probably the most common complaint with nissans
things to check/replace

1. panard rod bushes. if orig. replace anyway with neoprene.
2. steering dampener. run with 2.
3. control arm bushes. often overlooked.
4. tyres and rims must be balanced. 1 bent rim will cause probs.

st george mufflers & accessories can fix. Mick

I'd be checking the wheel bearing, that fixed the problem on my MK, left hand one was loose not by much but enough to cause problems from 65 to 80 k's as soon as the brakes were applied it went away get back to speed again and it returned, since adjusting its been smooth sailing .
