I have been getting conflicting information about if the rear bumper is normally welded to the chassis rails or not on the 80 series.

The workshop manual says that it has 2 bolts on either side but I have been told that welded is standard.

Could you please have a quick look under your 80 and tell me if it is welded or bolted and also the year and model of your 80.

Thanks in advance

welded between chassis rails with mounting brackets bolted to the outside of each rail to take the plastic bumperettes.

The centre part of the rear bumper is part of the chassis.... so they should all be welded..

Mine is..

The bumperette mounting brackets are either bolt in (early) or weld on (later).

Gday Brian
Wally is on the money. when you stand back and look at the rear bumper, the alloy part is bolted ontop of the actual; chassis rail, so the steel under it is chassis.
The plastics bolt onto brackets, either welded to or bolted themselves to the chassis.
