Have a very close look at the gearbox and transfer case for leaks (very common) and grinding when changing into 2nd and 3rd and look for dodgie seal up jobs. I'd definitely say that the gearbox is the weakest point although I think the V6's have a stronger gearbox than the diesels. Apart from that they are pretty tough vehicles- I only wish they didn't have IFS.
Almost forgot...I have read somewhere that you should avoid those V6's and LPG. Can't remember exactly why but I'll look through my pile of mags and try to findout why.

Geez I'm keen, anyway found that article in 4x4 Trader April 2005 p. 28
quote:
" Don't even consider buying a V6 Petrol triton that been fitted with an LPG kit. Of the major suppliers in the 4x4 market, only Mitsubishi used to be strongly against gas fuel for its V6 engines, until the LPG-compatible 3.5-litre was introduced to the Pajero range. Mitsubishi changed the late model 3.0 litre V6's piston rings, valves and valve seat material in an effort to meet the demands of LPG combustion heat, but the engine still suffered from valve seat recession." I'm not sure, but I think the LPG issues are only with the 2 valve heads - I'm pretty sure the 4 valve heads are OK.
There was some good info about this on the Pajero Club Forum recently - have a look over there.
Cheers,
Scott
