Mickey Thompson Tyres?

Post by LuxyBoy »

Hi all i am going to need new tyres soon and was looking around, there are too many to choose from. Found these:
Mickey Thompson Radial Claw Mud Terrain
http://www.abt4x4.com/index.php?PCID=26 ... imary&CDO=

Just wondering if anyone runs them?
Are they noisey compared to Cooper or BFG?
Tyre life?

I am after a quite, longer lasting tyre that is a good all rounder; sand/mud/rock/bitumen/wet bitumen
Please help
Kind Regards,
Brad

dude theres heaps of ppl running radial claws, talk to ryano if you need to be convinced of their quality.
some ppl will say no good on a ute coz they slide on side slopes, some ppl will tell you thats bull.
if i was in the market, i would hire some from fourbys for a weekend and make my own decision..

tyres are almost like shoes. some ppl say volleys are the best, some ppl wont wear anything other than adidas, some ppl like adidas for mud, nike for rock, some ppl like volleys for rock, and mizuno for mud, some ppl like rm williams for everything, some ppl like thongs coz theyre cheap and they match their paintwork.. some ppl like whatever their mates buy etc etc

try some for yourself, buy some used ones, hire some.
if youre asking 'are they shit?' i would say no theyre a good quality tyre, but there could be something more suitable for the terrain you play on. ..

at the end of the day, only you really can decide what tyres to get for your rig.

I have never used the Radial only the bias ply. However the thread pattern is very similar.

I suggest sending Ryano a PM and asking him for his advice.

To me the tyres are amoungst the best in the 4wd business and what makes them better is that they (mickey thompson and distributors) care about the tyres - have a read of this for service and back up care!

If they haven't replaced the hire set in the last 6 months, then don't bother getting them. The set i hired where rooted.

i am about to buy my third set of radials (4th set of claws). i have had 35"s in the past and will prob get the 36x14.5 for the street / beach / sunday arvo play. the talk of side slopes is shite. they won't be as good as a simex for side slopes (having such a massive tread height range when veiwed from the side) but would be much better than any muddy like bfg's that have voids that are too small and don't self clean. i think one person of note made the claim ages ago, now everyone feels tougher by saying they have a lateral cross slope biting drama.

frankly there is not another contender in the radial claw league, with each other tyre being softer like mtr, bfg, cooper etc better suited to dry stuff or mainly touring, or more aggressive like simex, bias claw swamper etc that are not suited for d/d.

they wear well are relitively quiet and grip well enough.

don't hold back.

see ryano at forby's

cheers bru

So the simex are better by being more aggressive but i am guessing would make more noise.

What is the tyre life compared with other brands?
I dont want to have an awesome tyre that needs replacing more than my oil

Are the side walls as strong/stronger than cooper/BFG?

I might give Ryano a call or go and see him.
Thanks for the questions already answered :D

Haven't seen these before; they look a little noisy.
Has anyone used these to compare to the MT's?

X terrains are half way between all terrains & muddies. OK on rocks n dirt, not bad in mud , but Claws are heaps better in the bog. Mate runs em and gets up everything, and DOESN't slide on crossslopes, that's just BS thats written bout em.

I know that the x-terrains won the Outback Challenge back in '02.

Overall, I'd say the Claw would be a better tyre overall....
