would there be much market for this

Post by runnin4life »

Hi
I may possibly be able to get a 2.0 hilux motor left over from an engine conversion

What I would like to know would there be much of a market for an efi kit for these

Because I was thinking of making up an efi set up for it

The kit would consist of all the parts you can’t get from the wreckers

I know there is other efi engines out there for the lux but some people can’t afford that and this would cost $200 at the most (depending on what you pay for parts)

Would people be interested in this?

I think it would be fun to do

Any feed back would be great
cheers

not expecting wheel stands.

run it past your olds then.

with the price of fuel?

Post by tuf045 »

with the price of fuel wouldn't it be easyer to convert to gas and get cheaper fuel and solve the stalling on hills in one go?

Thats the other plan.

why not do both???

Gas is the future of my pig i think. i just need the gas carby and maybe do it properly and convert the internals of the motor to suit.
but its not overly cheap either.

fuel storage could be a problem on short wheel base with duel fuel? I personally think that gas would be cheaper to set up properly than efi if you can do stuff yourself ie: buy secondhand tank and mount it yourself. There is a place at berresfield that sells second hand ones you just need to know what dimensions that you need. I was quoted $258 for one to go in the back behind the seat on a gq. A mate brought a gas ring and convertor to forced induction for around 4 hundred, then you just need to contact someone that installes gas around your way to get them to run the lines and hookup shutoff valves and fuel gauge then they will sign off on it and be all legal.

when i get round to it i will probally use a 4.0 ford system

either make a adaptor to run the throttle body on the 40 series manifold or make an adapter to bolt the hole manifold and all off the ford onto the 40 series block

the second way might be better as it would have all the injectors and so on not sure

why use ford crap when delco stuff is so cheap and programable were the ford is not as adaptable and is harder to programme.
i can see that it would be easier to adapt the dizzy but that would be able to be overcome with the delco.

and plus i wouldnt have a clue how to programe any of that shit

tuf045,

sounds like a goer.
I can get a tank for free just have to check the use by and capacity.
So all i need is gauge, lines run, and yeah the engine modified with A a gas ring and convertor to forced induction for around 4 hundred, do you know where he sourced that from?

place

Post by tuf045 »

drs the place he got the gas ring and convertor was at edgeworth behind the car jard where kennards hire used to be. will find out there name and let you know. the brand of the gas ring and the convertor was air rod. as for the engine being modifed, if was me i would just fit some upper clyinder lube and worry about it later( as in when the engine lets go from the turbo or supercharger that go with forced induction gas ring! :D :D

Spaz,
Having driven shorty40s old beast that was a top mod.
but $$ for money im thinking gas might be the go hey.
Gas is cheaper to run and cures angle issues all in 1 go.

unless you know of one going filthy cheap!!

tuf045,
If not worrying about a turbo etc, whats needed then?
