9mm is $16 per metre.

I was quoted that the other day. Any 4x4 shop should be able to get it in.

But it from Janrak Equipment

janrak@aol.com

$16 per mtr for 9mm is way too much I got 8mm for $11 and a few mates got 11mm for $15 a mtr. I would go the 11m and get max of 40 mtrs for a high mount.

Most comp cars use 9mm, 50m on our Hi Mount.

If your not in a hurry ther is a similar product coming out shortly which is cheaper, don't have any details on it though.

At the OBC the Alaskans were using the green rope which l think will be around soon, they had no breakages but yes "you get what you pay for" is true in most cases.

Hi Hayden,

I'm just wondering if there's any updates on this 'plasma rope' you were getting in?

Costs? Thickness? Rating etc.

thanks

Just thought I would clear some stuff up on Plasma or that type of rope.

There is a Company in Europe that makes a product called Dyneema. This material is by wieght the strongest material man made. It is used for many applications.

One of them is rope. They have a factory in the US. Tertiary companies flog this rope as whatever name it is given. There maybe some different specs on the tope but that might be due to different maximum safe working load tollerances used by the reseller or they are marketing a slightly differently designed rope.

But it should be made outta the same base product Dyneema.

http://www.dsm.com/en_US/html/hpf/home_dyneema.htm

I did all this research about 6 months ago when I was looking at key differences from wire to rope.

Hope it helps when deciding.

Most on pirate recommend Rockstomper for winch rope. This rope is a product from Samson Rope Technologies.

Some rope details are:
Amsteel Blue product code 872 - coated
12 strand single braid, HMPE fibre
For 3/8" dia - avg strength 20445 lbs, weight 3.6 lbs per 100 ft.

There are 2 Australian agents for Samson Rope Technologies (both in WA):
Sling Rig Pty Ltd, Kewdale (08) 9451 8133
TJF EBC (WA) Pty Ltd, Welshpool (08) 9358 2888

I don't know if they stock Amsteel Blue, someone might like to contact them and let us all know.

Plasma Rope

Post by XTREME MMM »

   back again, in my Xtreme Events (winch challenge) only Plasma 12 strand is allowed and it has to be 11mm. Any other competitor who wishes to enter one of the Xtreme events, that wants to use another brand of synthetic rope has to supply me with test figures & specs on the rope before I will allow it.

Hope this is of some help to you. If you are in WA get onto the Australian importer Jeyco (International?) and talk to Simon & he will be able to help you out.

The base material for all the plasma style ropes is the same
the treatments are the only difference.
Plasma 12 from Puget Sound ropes in the US has a lower breaking strain than the Amsteel blue by some 3000lbs!
Dyneema range these are sailing ropes marketed under the dynex range.

I have stumped for Amsteel blue from Rockstomper in the states and have to wait for my courier to collect it, A saving of £180 over the uk prices.

Plasma Rope

Post by XTREME MMM »

   The reason for 11mm Plasma ia it just ups the safety level a lot more & it will last longer. Do not forget in one Xtreme Winch Challenge you would winch more than the average person would do in a year. And it is only about 50 cents more, not much extra to pay for a safer rope & one that lasts longer.
