That is friggen awesome and about the right wheelbase length I reckon.
You want around 100" at least which is about midway between a swb and a lwb.

the agreement is 100 inch is good and sas is good this made me think range rover chasis! but then it'd be easer to just have a rangie

hmmm...you make a good point. If you went that way you would/could run the Pajero motor and gearbox and mate it to the Rover TC. Then run Pajero rear diff and Hilux front (or even better 60 series F & R) and mount the Pajero body cut into a ute.
If only we were all made of money

Apart from cash flow which is always a problem, I can't see any other reason why a Paj Ute couldn't be done. Wouldn't it be great to see a Paj in the Ateco or Vic Winch and why not the Outback!

how awesome would it be to see a pajero in tuff truck!
oh yes it will be mine.....

Yes it certainly would......................
A Gen 2 lwb has a 107" wheelbase so would be perfect to cut down to around 100" into a ute.
A good platform would be a 3.5 SOHC around 190Hp (tickled up can make 250Hp easily) with the stronger running gear (bigger gearbox, t/case with 3.15's, rear axles and 9.5" rear diff).
You could 5 link the rear (for good flex & high speed handling) and SAS the front either a 3 link for reliability and handling or 5 link for shear flex. If strength is an issue then a cut down GU front axle (9.25" diff) would be the go, you could run the Nissan 4.88's with a Mitsi rear 4.90. Or for maximum front clearance a cut down 80 Series axle (8" HP diff) with HD CV's (80 CV's are about 30% bigger than a Lux).
Of course running 35-37's with an ARB front and factory Mitsi rear locker with a cage.
One thing is guaranteed there would be no shortage of people coming over to have a look and a chat to say well done for doing something different
I get that now, people say it's still a Poojabber and a pos but well done for doing something different

It's very do..able.
But I would run a 3link rear with A frame and a 3 link front with panhard rod... and make it for rock crawling

I would rather go with the gen 2 swb (96 1/4 " wheel base) cut into ute with exo & tray and strech the diffs out to 100". agree with the 3.5L but would go with a range rover gear box and t/f case (better gearing and still keep centre diff lock) also would go SAS GQ diffs front and rear (for width) I would go a 3 link rear with A frame and a 3 link front with panhard rod, front & rear lockers, pro comp shocks and 37" wrangler MT/R's
for starters anyway.....

True the Rover t/case has better gearing options but 3.15's will be available for the Mitsu case and they run lower diffs standard.
Lots of people go on about Rover cases but out of all the t/cases I've seen fail Rovers would be number 1. I'm still to be convinced about any conversion using Rover parts which is an upgrade.
I'd like to know output shaft diameters & gear dimensions etc of a Rover case to compare to a 3.5 Mitsi case (27 spline, 29 mm output shaft diameter and Patrol size gears).
