I ran mine on 33's in 255/85, 285/75 muddies spec and also 33x10.5 JT2 for a few years using ETC and no lockers without drama. I used it, but did not abuse it and it was fine. A big shock load will break the axle or diff centre though. This is what it took to break it (rear diff and short axle).

Just dont let it spin up and grip... that breaks them.

I did break two rear axles running 32"x9.5" Simex ET having my rear locker engaged
now with heavy duty axles from Great Basin Rovers(
www.greatbasinrovers.com) I had no issues ever since

running 255/85r16 BFG muddies I snapped a 24 spline rear. was in for 2 months with a ARB locker and Maxi 4.11 diff gears. It broke unlocked on loose dirt just over idle......The final straw that made me go GQ diffs.

Hey DAS
But it was a stock axle that you broke right ? Not an MD or a JM one
Can you believe my 5/16" thick rope winch line broke

I broke a stock (cheap aftermarket) 24 spline axle on 32's (actually broke when going downhill). I then installed Maxi-Drive axles and a locker, and soon went to 33's 285/75-16), and have had no problems since (that was about 4 years ago).

yeah a stock Disco one. I had machince a groove out near the stub axle as a weak spot so when it did break it would there so the axle was easy to change and not have to pull the diff centre out. But it broke right at the sidegear !!!
As for your rope, thats abit wierd

the 24spline axles from maxidrive would be near impossible to break,i run 35 simex ETs and can't hurt MD 10spline axles(front inners and rears).

cooter will the pre 88 r/r cvs fit the front end of yours, cause they are alot stronger if your thinking of cheap upgrades. they are a tuff solid little cv

On a later model landie with the narrow stub axles, I think you will need to machine a spacer (about 10mm) to fit the rangie stubs.
