Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I've just fitted a cargo barrier to the back of Jack and am interested in any ideas and pics for storage sytems in the back including choice of materials ie wood vs alluminium etc. Also water storage ideas.
I noted a few guys mention storage systems and would be keen to hear about them.

Todd, do not know if you have had any success. I have a Rodeo that I build my own draws for.

I used 25mm steel tube and MDF with carpet that I bought from Bunnings. Reason for building my own was that I had a lot of camping gear hence had to custom make something suitable.

The draw rails cam out of an old Compaq computer rack.. 750mm long from memory and they worked perfectly.

I have seprate compatments over my wheel arches ( for my locker compressor and tool kit) adn rear of these for ropes, oil and other bits an pieces.

Total cost for my entire tray cost around $250. A lot cheaper than the $2000 for the comercial units.

thats a pretty good set up I like the idea of the table under the draws. I ended up building a raised false floor type arrangement with 18mm ply for the frame and top, no draws, and with the same carpet and brass recessed fittings you used. I am looking to revamp it in the not to distant future and pinch your idea on the table.

Are the draw slides still holding up?? I might have to keep an eye fro some recylced shelving items!!

The table was a must. Every time we went camping, or to a sporting event and needed a table it went with me but always got in the way. Because it fitted perfecty rear of the wheel arches I got the idea to build it into the rear tray. Now, not only is it aways with me, but it also adds some much needed weight to the rear of a very bouncy ute.

The rails are fine. They came off a Compaq computer rack so they were designed to hold quite large weights. The space behind the draws I just have as a lift up hatch.

Hey muddy been there done that. In fact thats what i copied but without the drawers and mines in black. Blacks always cooler!

I've now cut the cargo barrier and welded a new base on it and bolted it onto the storage false floor.

What I'm thinking of doing is revising it in a while using 2-3 mm aluminium sheets (I just happen to acces to) as the internal frame rather than the ply and still trying to work that table in somewhere.

Our other car is a CRV and the table in the boot has always come in handy.
