Well Hi Ya folks - this is my first post as a 4X4 person. I have a 95 XJ which I have had for some years and I am just getting into the scene. I used to drive 4X4s around the bush for a living and just never saw the point in doing it for fun. Anyway I have had a 2" OME kit fitted (largely because the original suspension was buggered) and I am wrapped with the handling etc on-road, but nead a few more bits and pieces to go off-road.

It is fitted with the std alloy nudge bar and I need tow points up front - what are my options.

I will be buying a new set of tyres but have been told 31" will rub inside on shock tower at full depression. Is this true and what are the options here?

Also what tyres are good value at the moment - I have been looking at the Cooper SSTs, Wrangler MT/Rs and Mickey J? mud something-or-other. Thet're all about the same price and everyone I talk to has completely different ideas.

Thanks for your help and congrats on a great forum.

Hey Snappy

As your in Western Sydney, go see Mark at Suburban 4x4, he will be able to provide some good advice on all of your questions

for front recovery points the downside is the unibody construction of the XJ doesnt really leave to too many options short of a good quality bar with recovery points intergrated eg arb sure you can just bolt a set of hooks on but the question is will they stay there when used

for 31's you really want to be looking at another inch of lift to do it right you really should have about 3.5" but you prob could fit them on but as you said a little rubbing

Tyres opinions are like arsholes everyone has one :finger: any of the tyres you have mentioned will do a good job, personaly I run MT/r's on my CJ7 but might go the Micky T radial claws next time not sure yet the MT/r and STT both make a good comprimise of aggressive off road but still nice on road the next step up from them really become 90% or more off road bias

you should be able to fit 31s okay, just need to adjust your steering stops (lose a bit of truning circle) . I got simex MT 31s with 2.5" lift.
