hi all

buying a 2.8 4runner to replace the 80 series.

im hoping to get an sr5, but think they stopped about 91? and if so how does the deluxe compare?

i need some advice on kitting this thing out for beach work?

any advice appreciated.

I will likely put a turbo on too, so advice there appreciated.

2.8 is a good honest motor which benefits significantly from turbo charging, and adapts to same very well. In stock standard form the 2.8 is somewhat asthmatic, and passing becomes an exercise in patience.

If the budget permits, I would honestly recommend you consider a later model with the 1KZT (3 litre Diesel Turbo) - engineered from factory, bags of torque, good fuel economy, and civiilised to drive.

but the 4runner didnt come out in a 3.0td.

the surf did, but not going there if there is no garuntee to fixing the overheating issues.

and a hilux 3.0 diesel is almost tripple the price of the 4runner 2.8

sadness, i wish i could own a surf, they are perfect, accept for the overheating. sadness.

My economy of my 2.8D 95 DC is between

350 420km per tank.
12.85 to 10.71 litres per 100km

Now I am a leadfood, what else can you be in a Hilux with no Guts.

My fuel usually at 400km to 45litres thats with highway, city at one fill.

Offroad I would only travel 60km total so havent done a full tank offroad before.(no long trips offroad)

I NEED A LONG RANGE TANK. :)
