GenI v6 versus GenII 2.5td

Some of you have seen my GenI LWB beast. Runs a 3.0V6.
Import laws are such here that bringing in a 15 year old vehicle from Japan is not a huge deal. So naturally, the brain begins ticking...
This would limit me to a 91... the first year of the GenII.
What do you guys reckon.... I'm thinking an SWB 91 2.5TD...Any weak points versus the 89 GenI? I'd probably not put this one on big tires, but keep it a bit more stock, sell the car, and take advantage of the fuel economy for the commute. Not to mention that Superselect 4wd...and a nice turbo-diesel. I know the 2.8 makes more power, but remember I am limited to a 91 or older if I import.
Opinions?

Hi Phil, so your decision will be between a swb Gen 1 2.5TDI or a Gen 2 2.5TDI ??
If so go the Gen 2 but a 5sp, the super select will be handy for the slick roads you drive on in winter (thats what it was designed for).
The Gen 2 is a superior vehicle with improved front suspension slightly wider track (more stable) and with more & upgraded features. The only issue for you will be spares.
Pity you can't get a 2.8TDI now because these are much better again.
Cheers, Frank.

I'd love to get the 2.8, but it'll have to wait until its 15 years old (import laws). I do love my manuals, Vic, but how was the auto box in that vinatge? Do you know what model it was? Did it have a lockup torque converter? I am pretty set on an auto, for one reason: I'm gonna be driving on the "wrong side" of the road over here, for this RHD in a LHD country. The though of signalling with my right hand and turning the wipers on with my left is bizarre, but to shift gears with my left hand as well!!!
Well that's just wrong!
Plus I may need wifey to drive it, and getting out of her 5 speed shifting with the right hand, and then shifting mine with the left... well, it might be a little trippy, know what I mean?
So which tranny is it? KM148/AW372? Or a beast I've never heard of...

Don't know if you have a fuso dealer up north but some of the smaller fuso trucks here have the N/a 2.8 so when them pajeros do get old enough there will be parts for them here.

Just wanted to update an old thread... a year later (by the time it was imported) I got the truck, and have now been driving it a almost another year. Love it!
