Automatic 1KZ-T engine onto a manual gearbox

I want to fit a 1KZ-T engine into my bundy. There's a 1kZ-T engine available that comes with a automatic box. I want to mate it onto my R151 gearbox. Do I need a bigger flywheel? Any conversion kits available for this?

sorry mate. I can't help you on the technical side but i can tell you that once you've got it all up and running... you're gonna luv the 1KZT engine. The engine was standard fare in my model 70 series. 128,000 miles and it's as tight as a drum. Brilliant engine. I only wish the exhaust was as good. It's rusted now and it's time for a new one but a custom job will cost £500 + VAT and toyota's standard replacement part costs... wait for it... £1200 + VAT! What a ripp off. Time to get out the old welder and weld a piece or two together i think.

PBR (The Aussie brake and clutch mob) do a solid flywheel and clutch kit to the suit the 1KZ. It was brought out because of the 1KZ Powered Hilux Surf's came with a special dual-mass flywheel that breaks eventually(happened to me). Very common problem. The later Hilux and Prado's with the 1KZ have a solid flywheel.

So would that be the kit I require to convert a former 1KZ engine, that was originaly attached to a auto box, to a manual box? Is there any other alternative way? Or, could I just fit a clutch onto the flywheel?

There is no flyhwheel in an Automatic car. Well not in the same sense as a manual vehicle's flywheel. All there is, is a thin plate called the flex plate that holds the ring gear for the starter motor. The torque converter does the job similar to that of the flywheel, to smooth the engine vibrations, and this in turn bolts to the flex plate.
If you get the full kit, which you'll need, the ring gear will need to be removed from the flex plate, cleaned up and shrunk onto the new flywheel. You need to source new crank-shaft bolts too, as the automatic one's will probably be too short at a guess. You existing bolts maybe OK.
Another thing, do you have the correct bell housing?. You need the maunal R151F - 1KZ unit. The automatic's one will be no good.
Just remembered, Daikin also do full kit aswell. Better quality probably than the PBR. I think the Daikin kit uses a larger clutch setup than the PBR, though but not too sure.

OK thanks I'll check the kits out. Sounds like I'd better find a manual Surf half cut!! My present gearbox in R151.

I bought a Daikin clutch kit for my 1KZ powered Surf, which is the same as the Toyota kit(OEM) and I payed $420 in total, though through work with a nice trade discount. Toyota wanted over 2 times this price for the same unit. Not many local 1KZ engines around at that time. What did you pay for your genuine kit out of interests sakes. Thanks.

i paid about 500.00 with a trade discount though.
The catch is after market clutch people make every excuse under the sun for a clutch failure they allways say it is the way you drive same with other brands. But toyota if it is a genuine toyota fitup 9 times out of ten they will fix it parts and labour if you have a problem.

1998(ish) to 2000 Hilux 3.0TDs had the Manual box, and a Cable throttle...
2001-2004 they were all Fly by Wire throttles- same as the 90 and 120 series prados- all fly by wire.
Would love to drop the Turbo intercooled 3.0TD out of a prado into my 2.8D lux, but the wiring mess that would result is making me think again
