As part of my rebuild, the guys are putting a pod filter into a custom box for me. Should be quite compact. I doubt it would be ideal for really dusty conditions but it might get you the room you need to do your batteries

I've sucessfully moded a 22r and a 3l airbox to fit a large deep cycle batt in. All you need is some scrap sheet metal and a mig. Both had safari snorkles fitted. You pretty much have to cut the brackets and inlet off and turn them around.

i made a custom one out of stainless. it's got a 3" foam pod filter in it. piece of cake if you can tig weld. mig would work but not as pretty.

That K&N idea would be great if about $350 cheaper! :bad-words:

Is there such a thing as an inline filter very similar to the K&N one? about 3"-4" dia would be great. Preferable from repco in very cool racing black.

Why not just make one from PVC plumbing fittings and pipe?

I fitted a vn commodore air filter box up to my hilux, I used some pvc down pipe fittings to fit it up to my snorkle. I sealed the orignal intake for the air box up and reposioned it on the other side, so as to fit the pipes to the snorkle. this was mounted on the front rhs ,it works well, cheap filter elements, easy to change, larger size intake pipe, cheap to buy. hope this helps, I should be able to get a photo of it , tomorrow. cheers phil.

GQ air box will fit on top of diesel motor (prolly the same for the 4Y) and leave the old air box spot for your 2nd battery. After the original bracket set up issues and ducting are done you'll be laughing as replacement filters are readily available and cost effective.
