I am a soft rooster!
I am a soft rooster!
I have decided not to run my Q78's on my Sierra for a number of reasons, and I now have a new shortlist,
1. Replace my 33x13.5 claws.
2. 34x10.5 LTB's (33.6" actual).
3. 34.9x9.5 swampers (33.8" actual).
4. 35x10.5 boggers (34.8" actual).
I have been very happy with the Claws but I want a bit more hieght.
I guess I am leaning towards the bogger at the moment although it is at the top end of the height I want to run.
Any tyres I have missed?
Peter.

pete go the boggers as I'm very interested in seeing what they are like. I reckon the LTbs are an awesome tyre for the Zuk also
I agree about the LTB's they are not far behind the bogger on my short list.

Go the boggers, boggers on a daily driver means you're hardcore even if you rarely go wheeling
If you can be bothered changing tyres on beadlocks you can borrow my 36" Simex's for a weekend.
Have run them on my zook and was very happy.
What's wrong with the Q78's?

I love my 35' centerpede's. I run 5psi in the front and 3psi in the rear. The side wall doesn't bulge much (which i belive people take as the tyre being to stiff), but the tread area flexs quiet well. This is the only photo i've got of the pedes doing anything funky, but have a look at where the rim is and how much its trying to unseat the bead(it didn't loose it). The centerpedes in my mind are great but i haven't run anything else on my zook so i really can't compare them to anything else properly.

Ive not driven on, but have witnessed the LTB's working very well, for Big Steve (similar payload as your zook carries)
Have also witnessed the Simexes working well on all types of light and heavy cars.
All new tyres will be stiff, till you've run them for a while.
Don't have enuff knowledge to comment on the bead seating stability.
Don't know anything about the other brands mentioned, either.
christover (also a high payload )

Go the Simex Centipedes. i have had a set for awhile now and have been off road with mates who have the Boggers and i am convinced the simex are a better tyre. For mud anyway have not done any rock crawling.

Hookers are like bowling balls, You pick them up, put your fingers in them, then throw them in the gutter and they come back for more.
pete,
i spoke to exclusive tyre distributors in regards to the boggers... i think they came in at an estimated 320-330 per tyre depending on what the conversion rate ends up being... they have never brought these into australia before though, so they won't have them in stock and you will have to wait a while for them to bring them in. i.e. between 1 and 5 months depending on when their next shipment is (which is dependent upon demand).

on the subject of good tyres, these look pretty awesome:

As for motorways - i'd always have that doubt in the back of my mind about them being a re-tread.

Coopers don't seem to good either, as for their warranty ????
George Carlin, an American Comedian said; "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that".
the link you posted was all for guys in full laiden cruisers though =) the weight of a zuk aint gonna come near that!
tyres are a funny thing though - the ones some people swear by others hate entirely. ive run cooper H/T's for 4 years now - rears were on tread indicator after 3.5 years, fronts still have 3mm before tread indicator. and i have wolloped these tyres... burnouts, 90km/hr jumps on sand with only 7psi in them, 160km/hr runs down the freeway... all sorts of punishment. the guys down at local mech. and tyre place also run them for long hauls from perth to broome etc and never had a problem.
i still think the new STT looks sweet as for a zuk liek mine that does a lot of road time =)

Simex's may have not been designed for rock, however they do handle the Victorian conditions very well. For the smallish amount of rock available to be driven in public areas tyre flex isn't everything.
Boggers would be the go for an offroad tyre but i believe that Mr. Drew Peacocks vehicle spends a majority of its time on the road.

What are retreads like???
ive been offered a set of muddies $70 each that are retreads and the bloke swears by them he runs them on his redeo 4x4 ute...
They look like a good tread and they have heaps of tread to you wouldnt notice the're retread till you got up close and looked
someone said they would be fine up bush or just on the rear on road????

I have a set of 31" mongrels and have seen a set of 33"s, the 33's have been used on a done up hilux for many years, only offroad in mud though and im sure with the southport mud and twin lockers they take a punishing and there is no sighs of any retread riping or falling off issues, mine look awesome too, especialy for a person on a budget like me
Wouldnt you want the one that most suits your conditions as you can choose from all 3?

I have chosen the LTB's 34.9x9.5/15
The main reason for not fitting the Q78's was not wanting to alter the look of my car dramaticly,
I have somthing of a rareity in a 92 Sierra that is engineered with a springover, 1.6L, and 33 inch tyres. I doubt I will be able to get that combo engineered again (especialy the 33" bit)
and as I drive this car most days I think 36" tyres (and the guard cutting required to fit them) will atract to much attention.
This will also give me an excuse as to way I didn't get up that hill or why I got bogged to the bejessus in that boghole
I do however think (hope) I will be very happy with the LTB's, thanks for all your imput.
Peter.
