What model, what year, LWB/SWB?

u bled the master cylinder and the brake porportioning valve??

97 GQ lwb 5" lift 2.8 td this problem has been evident for some time and its got me stuffed , tried all i know just thought the forum might give me some help before we go to the brake shop cheers stormpatrol

yes i have bled the prop valve at the rear and all wheels but not the master cyl do you bleed the master cyl seperate to the whole system regards stormpatrol

I would like some info on this to please as my brake pedal went straight to the floor today.Had to pull handbrake on and nearly pushed the pedal thru the firewall to stop.

this sounds like a easy one clamp off all the lines see if she goes to floor if so one new master cyl i thinks try that let me know cheers stormpatrol

stormpatrol what size tyres are you running? also have you checked that your getting good vacum at the master cylinder

running 31" on road 33" off road have not checked the vacum thanks stormpatrol

discs were machined too were they ?????????

check your caliper slides, they seize up and will give a spongy feel as the caliper flex's to push pad to disc. pays to clean and grease at pad changes. is it disc/disc or disc/drum? if drum check adjustment.

Just a thought did you buy the master cylinder pre-assembled or did you need to assemble it. If pre-assembled it sounds like the rubber boot has inverted, if you assemebled the master cylinder did you place a small amount of rubber grease behind the rubber cup if not its leaking down.

To bleed master cylinder:
Get a mate. Wear old clothes.
Fill resevoir with brake fluid.
One guy hold fingers over all the brake line outlets of the master cylinder and apply some pressure.
Other guy push the piston into the cylinder so it forces fluid out of the outlets.
Keep enough pressure on the outlets so that when the piston is released it sucks brake fluid into the cylinder from the resevoir, not air from the outlets.
Repeat until there is no air in cylinder. Top up resevoir when necessary.
Install on vacuum diaphram and hook up brake lines.
Bleed brake lines like normal.

Have the pads bedded in yet??

Will be spongy until they do.

ok thanks going to check the slides sounds like a gooer cause when you put brakes on you can see the calipers flexing a fair bit / ill let you know cheers stormpatrol

no the slides are a sliding, me thinks ill have to get bank loan and get pro help before the brakes let go big time regards stormpatrol

New rotors pads etc told by pro brake company this will fix the cheesy feel seems the mud stuffs up the pads and rotors who would of thought of this lol lol not so bad got 4 new rotors 4 sets pads and two sets caliper kits for $500.00 , will put them in on sat thanx for all your input cheers stormpatrol
