Outer Limits 4x4 Board

If you look at the capacities it lists the RB30 gearbox as 3.9 litres, it ain't! Closer to 5.1l. Now that isn't a problem if you do the spill and fill trick when re-oiling the box, but I live in a rental with a nice shiny paved driveway, so I did the measure and pour thing......................bugger.

I think the diffs on the GQs were wrong in the gregories, there was something else I found a few yr ago that was wrong

It doesnt matter how you do it you should on those always ensure ots at the level of filler plug.

you dont spill much when you do the fill and spill method as you call it

Im talking maybe 4 drops of oil getting to the ground, you just put the cap in quickly, and whipe the oil as it runs down the box. Could easily just put a rag on the ground and youd be right.

I would never rely on measuring the fluid out to make sure you get the right amount, what if you count wrong or the thing your using to measure isnt right, what if you left the sump plug out (never done this but have seen it done heh). I generally measure the oil as i put it in my engine, but thats only as a guide so i know roughly when its close to being full. Then I use the dipstick.

Theres only one way to know when your oil levels are correct, and that for diffs gearbox and transfer case is when the oil is up to the level of the filler plug.
