I have a fj45 troopie with standard steering.
I have a complete power steering from a 40 series to install.
I need some reference photos of the placement of the pipes and hoses.
Does anyone have any photos of your fj40/45 inside the engine bay?
Can you send me them so I can see the plumbing/mounting?
If anyone has the original hoses/pipe layout please send me some picks.

regards azzyfj45

btw: donations or cheap offers of a triple crank pulley/harmonic balancer most welcome.

I've got HJ47 2H , so different pump setup - i got the complete p/s kit out of a BJ42, and ended up using a 60 series pump, new pressure lines made up, mod raditator, remote reservoir bracket.
I can take some pics over the weekend if you want,
Cheers

I have the origional 40series pwr steer on mine but its on a 351 cleveland...

does it have to be origional?? you just need to run the hoses down onto the chassis out of the way...I just cable tied mine in and its been there for 4 years without a prob..

hope that helps...if not just ignore all of the above.. ;)

A 1977 won't have standard power steering. I've got one, also my old 1978 ute didn't have it either.

Do you have any more showing the twisted (loopy)metal piping and where that goes?
Also one from the top showing the ps pump mounted.(showing the bracket mounted)
I really appreciate the photos 4sum4, especially the colour dots!

Hey you've shown me all the pics I needed especially pic8.jpg, really I would not have guessed the pipe went behind the battery and up along the head light!

p.s. ok you've shown me all the pipe layout, where the bolts go, the hanger, now just one more thing?

Got a few hours and some spanners??

:P :P

Only joking, these pics are excellent, I would never have got the tubing layout original and right without these pics!

and yes its a 2F!
best regards Aaron

BTW; to anyone reading this, still hoping to get my hands on a triple crankshaft pulley

;) I appreciate every ones help in showing me the pipe locations, its this help that makes this forum the best I've seen.

Just had a squiz through the pics - my power steer lines (from a BJ42) run from the pump, around/under the battery tray (on the engine side) , under the d/s engine mount, along the chassis rail, across the front cross member under the radiator, double back under the radiator back to the reservoir.

The original bolt holes (captive nuts) for the line under the radiator were even there on my troopy.

I'll take some pics tomorrow and post so we can compare.

thanks Stackson45

This is prob the loopy bit you've got? goes under the rad and doubles back.

Next photo you can see both lines from the loop - one going back to box, one going up to reservoir (curves upward)

This shows both lines from the box, one line from the loop going to the box, and the pressure line between the box and pump.

The hydraulic man did a good thing and made the pressure line a three piece line, meaning if the hose blows, you can get any hydro place to make a new line, where as with a custom one-piece, you would need the whole piece remade.

Also where a pipe runs near something, i slice a bit of fuel line or whatever and wrap it - should really fab a mount to hold it away from stuff... i'll do that one day...

Also, the first pics is from under the car, put your head roughly where the diff centre is....

I can put dots if the pics aren't clear enough.

Some other things i had to do (for 2H)

Radiator mod, and remote reservoir mount.

Hey Matt let me know if you need more pics of a 40 series power steering install?
Did you figure out if the 60 series triple/twin pulley would fit?
What did you have to do?
regards Aaron

are i dunno havnt looked into it realli.
its just that when i bought my power steering set up the pipes that run along the front crossmember or up around the headlight are different to my dads. he has a 1982 fj45 and mine is a 1977

was there any change of the set ups over these years?

Mate, where are those pics, did you send them directly ? IO see no links, could you perhaps send me these, i need to do the same thing as the OP, have a 2F FJ40 and a stock P/S off an FJ40 but don;t know where the pipes are going. Thank you

EDIT: I know the 2F petrol has no 'loop', just a piece of tubing that runs along the headlight but a pic showing the Lower mopunt of the tube woudl help, also pics showing where the pump sits bolted over the engine hook and what spacer is used for the lower bolt (where there is no hook, so it needs a 15mm spacer or something like that)... hope I make sense.

This is the schematic but really pics of the real thing are what i need:
