Hi all

I have a Nissan Patrol (well Ford Maverick, same deal)

Its a TB42 Carby running on LPG.

I have noticed she is a bit gutless on LPG and has a miss on petrol due to the extreme advanced timing used for LPG engines.

I want to put a turbo onto this baby to boost her power output, not looking at drag car style, but something that will give me a bit more power without turning my engine inside out.

What would be a good place to look for a turbo for one of these babies.

I would say for a start your mechanical advance in your dizzy is out, as for LPG advance compared to unleaded, well there is only (should) be around 4 deg difference, and if your car is MISSING then you need either plugs, leads, tappet adjustment, check valves and seats, compressions etc.

As far as turboing goes, bugger that, there is just to many components you need to be done properly to fit one, and when you do the cost would out way the power gain. I would tend to go with a super charger, and as for power it is instant, no spool up Lagg etc....

I think you may need to either go straight LPG or Unleaded, if you turbo it or super charge while still in duel fuel, the engine will need to be either computer controlled with injection and with duel maps for LPG as well or detonation will kill your motor real fast.

I would 1st get your dizzy regraphed, add new leads, cold air (snork etc) check what I said earlier..

Then when your done with that 6... PUT AN 8 IN IT......LOL....

dont think superchargers need intercoolers there just a big fancy forced air induction type deal

forces more air so u can feed more fuel 2 it something like that

rootes style syperchargers don't tent to heat up the air as much as centrifical types and turbos (essentially the same thing, except one is belt driven, the other exhaust).
Rootes types do benefit from intercooling, but you can only use water to air, and they are very expensive.
if it is a centrifical type, then they benefit greatly from intercooling, either water to air (preferable) or air to air (will be of some help).

Saw a TB42 powered ute (blue extra cab) dynoed at Landcruiser Mountain Park in May - 380 hp at the rear wheels. It ran a big intercooler and I suspect lots of boost but it was a very driveable setup - it was driven there and competed all weekend.

Most people would be rapt with half that amout of hp at the wheels.

I'm looking very seriously into the same thing now, using a medium sized TO4, and a draw thru LPG set up, no IC, just low boost. Hoping for around 300RWHP. Still in the planning stages

Let me know how you go and what you are thingking of using, as i am in a bit of a pickle looking for a charger atm, the one i thought i could get was for a Holden and wouldn't fit mine.

Check this link out, he has a supercharger setup available to suit a TB42 efi motor. May be of some use.

I am using a Carby TB42.

Though i am doing a total mod on the carby setup

One of the Jets in the Nikki Carby that is factory default on my type is dead, its cracked, and can't be replaced.

I have been looking at putting a 4 Barrel Holly on it. Central Coast Carby has a Manifold and carby pack for the TB42 that has a LPG setup on it that allows me to remove the air cleaner from the top of the carby and install a new pipe system onto the unit that looks like the EFI setup.

I plan to use a EFI air cleaner box on my setup to allow a better air cleaner setup as well as to fit a Snorkle aswell.

I will put that info to good use
