Legalities, Lifting and flexing.

I've just bought a Zook. So far it has: Rear Lockright
215 muds
4 point cage
Front tube bar
2 inch susp lift.
Rancho rs5000's

What I am wondering is what else I can do that is "LEGAL" in Queensland. Are there some brand of scissor shackles I can buy that are legal?
What bl can I put in, biggest legal lift?
Eventually I want to go ute, when there is a fair bit of panel damge, Can this be mod plated?

I am looking to get it higher and a heap more flex, as there is none to fuck all atm. Anything else you might think of let me know if ya want.

Cheers. Zookified.

This should be put into the bible. A legal part or sumthing. ANd yes, I have already tried a search.

What bl can I put in, biggest legal lift? 2 inches but u have to get a letter from transport to say u can
Eventually I want to go ute, when there is a fair bit of panel damge, Can this be mod plated? yes depends if u have a nice engineer

RACQ paid a visit to our school and I asked the inspector (who has been doing vehicle inspections for 19 years) whats the legal limit of lift to be applied to any car.

He said there is no Height limit, and I was very suprised...

you have just about modified your zook to the limits of the law in queensland.

Scissor/ drop shackles are illegal in QLD.

My advise, if you are going to mod your zook, do sensible mods like RUF and extended shackles, and no larger than 31's, and keep your zook looking neat and tidy, and you shouldn't get hasstled. ;)

legality and "get away with" are two diff things in QLD.

2" suspension and 2" body lift is maximum in QLD with QLD transport prior written approval. Pointless wihtout th3e tyre lift to get offroad clearance.

No difflocks or gearing reduction is technically legal in QLD.

215/70/15 is the maximum legal tyre size.

Ad you can see there are virtually no legal 4wd modifications in QLD, but placing a 5 litre EFI V8 in an 1100kg car is perfectly legal.

Now that's sensible.

Some laws are so fucking shit. Well it looks like I'll be driving an illegal car then....

Thanks for the info fellas.

in ALL states you can go to the trouble and extreme expense of having it engineered... plan it, talk to the govt. and talk to an engineer about the plans and how to go about it. you can register a pretty well modded zuk if you can afford to pay (read: bribe) them to give you the papers.

dont worry about the mods yet just drive it . It will all happen with time there is no need do go crazy with mods i think it will suprise you where it will go . mods will come when u break stuff most guys start with the basic stuff . wait until you get your licence it will be fun

I was told by a engineer that QLD Transport will not approve anything over 2" suspension lift.
Did not ask if it was + body lift.

QLD transport will allow pretty much the same as the other states (2" suspension or techically 1/3 travel in both bump and rebound mode).

Depending on the vehicle more should be possible without an engineers cert if the vehicle stays within the 1/3 guidelines.

You can get further height approved but would require engineering tests - complexity based on size of lift.

Note that body lift can be approved seperate to suspension lift meaning approve your 2" body lift then add 2" suspension lift easily (no approval required).

However many insurance companies will only cover 2" suspension or body lift maximum (not the 2"+2").

Yeah I know Whitey. You've told me before. I am just sussing out what I can do that is still legal. I'm happy wth how it climbs, drive it at home every day. Havn't dinged it yet, soon though haha.

I am getting a set of diffs and frame rails and a bit of other shit for free, whenver I need them pretty much. SO they can be used for something.
