Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi All,
I looked on the search engine for this website and didn't find much info so I thought that I could ask you guys and girls what you thought. I am buying some 235/75r15 tyres at the end of the week for my Holden Drover. I was hoping to get an aggressive tread pattern and cant decide between the MTR's and Cooper ST's. I know that both these tyres are pretty good (I own a set of ST's on my Pajero, first set getting me 120,000km) and I wanted to know what other people thought of the MTR's? We're hoping to get away to the outback in a few months, the Cape in a year or two and we will definitely be doing regular 4WDing trips in between. I know the ST's are reliable, but the MTR's are cheaper- still got a pretty good reputation too- and I reckon a nice set of chunky tyres would look great on the Holden Drover. Could you please help me with your opinions and/or past experiences with these tyres, I would greatly apprieciate it. By the way, I only want 235/75r15's as these are the largest tyres I can fit on the standard rims.

Go the MTRs - a very strong tyre - 3x1500 denier sidewall

I've had both, in different sizes, and for noise and off-road performance I didn't notice a great deal of difference. The MT/Rs have a much better reputation among the rock crawlers.

The MT/Rs were bought secondhand, and they never balanced properly; this probably explains why they wore more in 15k km than (smaller) S/Ts did in 30k km. New STTs replaced the MT/Rs, and they balanced fine on the same rims, but I haven't had them long enough to get a good feel for wear.

Horses for courses. Which do you REALLY want to buy?

I know others who havent got 50,000 out of either ST or MTR, then there are others.

had MTR's and they were a good tyre both on and offroad....

my latest toy had ST's on it when I bought it and they were noisy as hell and I couldn't get them off fast enough. Personal opinion but I just couldn't live with the coopers.

I say go the MTR's you won't regret it

MT/R has a very tough sidewall for a radial, and is quieter and had better traction in most situations than the ST, with the possible exception of mud - the cooper ST is a surprisingly good mud performer.

120,000km is too long for any tyre unless you do 40,000km/year - after 2 - 3 years out in the sun tyres get hard and sure they will wear slower as they get older, but their traction goes out the window. If you can get 120,000km out of ST's, you'll get 60,000+ out of MT/R's and that's heaps for an offroad tyre.

I am very happy with my new MT/R's, there is a little road noise but its not over the top, the sidewalls as as tough as people say, I air down to 20 and under my 60 series they don't bag out as much as other tyres.

Have not tried mud yet but rock/dirt/sand they are fantastic.

Get a set of simex centipedes. not extreme trekker centipedes but the mud terrain style ones. They look simmilar to MTR's but are more open.

love em, ask anyone who go's wheelin with me, they'll tell ya how much rubber i burn on the rocks and still have heaps of rubber left.

Checked yesterday for the goodyears, MTRs in 245/75/16 (little ones for my rangie), the walk in off the street price $284 fitted and balanced.

I paid $250 each in october 2003 for my last set - so that isn't bad

i have just bought my mtr's 35's for $285 fitted and balanced hope they go as well as i have read and herd will let you know

Do some research on Pro Comp Xterrain tyres they are very good
