Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Since I ripped one of my crummy alluminium side steps clean off, and the others just hangin on, i've gotten pretty close to punching out my door sill so i think its time for sum steel sliders. I need to do them before the end of september (going to wattagans Oct Longweekend), and i want to know how hard they'd be to knock up. I've never welded b4, have a friend with a welder but he reckon's he's not too good at it anyway , soooo, i wanna know how hard it is, and if a couple of lunkheads who dunno how to weld could pick it up and do it in a day or so?

And how much $$$ should i be prepared to pay for the steel. Lookin at probly 4mm thick square tube (that description came with the piccys ), and 6mm for the plates with the screws in em.

Any tips/hints etc very much appreciated

id learn how to weld first. if ya dont weld them properly........they wont protect anything.

but after you can weld, i reckon it would be easy...........im gonna make some for me

my sills are already smashed in though

how hard is it to learn to weld/how long? Hours, days, months.. YEARS????? Any welders/fabricators in sydney want free labour for a few days if they teach us???

if ya gonna use that mig thats in the pic's above. it wont take long. just get some scrap and weld it. but after ya weld it, try and break the weld to see how much penetration you got (different type of penetration dude..... ) mig is a pinch of piss to do, as long as ya mate has an idea on how to, then youll be fine

like learning to drive its all seat time!

nah, those pics just ripped off sumwhere else , but he has a mig, a lil one from supercheap or sumthing i think, not a great one

Think i'll just practice with sum scrap metal for a bit, and then go for it.

This might help you after you get the hang of welding, practice a lot on some scrap metal first for sure...

Welding and Thermal Cutting is a good TAFE course, one week on each process then eight weeks on the one you like. Welding pretty easy one you get the nack of it which could take hours ,days, or weeks, migs easy to learn if you can afford one.

if you want to do it cheap, build them and then bring em round and I will weld em for you
