Thermo Fans...

Found this site that has after market twin thermo fan kits for fords.
Can anyone give me some info on running this setup in a 93 3.9 rangie??
Do they really work has anyone used / have them that does a lot of 4wding??

I have twin Pacet fans on my V8 90 and have actually removed the viscous fan, here's what I have found:
- they don't move as much air but you can get away with it if your radiator, water pump etc are in top notch condition (and clean)
- living in cold wet places helps a lot
- consider adding vents to let the hot air out and keep the front of the radiator clean of spotties, winches, roos etc.
If you are having overheating problems check all the other things first...

No offroad it's just for towing bodge home

also forgot to mention I have another set in front of the radiator as well so 4 fans in all
does get hot sometimes - on a hot day fully loaded climbing steep firebreaks or trekking down the beach at high tide in the deep soft sand - and you have to keep the radiator clean.

the fans in the pics are el or au ford fans. they are very cheap (to buy). they can be mounted very easy, and are the right size for most radiators. i personally have them on a blown vn v8, a blown 93 ltd 5.0, a vl turbo, a 400ci pontiac trans am,and my blown 400ci f150. plus a few more people on this site as well. they work well, and if one packs it in, the other should get you out of trouble. the au fans are the cheaper ones.

Mickrangie,
The 3.9 radiator is pretty efficient and shouldn't need thermo fans. My Aquarangie doesn't need them and I live in Queensland. The needle doesn't budge past haff way anytime weather of-road or highway driving.
Maybe the radiator needs to be cleaned out. I also run spotties in front of the beast and it doesn'r seem to bother it.

I want to run thermos in place of an engine fan. Would 2 16" fans cool the engine in extrem conditions??

I have two 12" i think thermos in the front of my '76 rangie and if i have it at idle not moving it starts to get hot, it doesn't have a cowl though, I want to do the opposite to you i want an engine fan or thermos that will work better.

I have used 2 x Davies Craig fans on my Rangie. The models recommended by Davies Craig. They have a build in shroud and worked very well. Only removed them because I have an HF radio and the fans caused alot of hash noise I could not get rid of when they were running. I had no over heating problems even when crawling up hills in summer with the aircon on.

I run twin ford EL thermos on my Rangie, it has a 5lt VS motor and I have never had any heating problems and gaied more power.
