Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Have just rebuilt a 2.5td and was wondering which way the thermostat went, it didn't have one in it when pulled apart so I don't knw for sure which way it goes as it can fit either way in the housing and the manual I have doesn't give a view.

Normally the big spring to the engine and the "hooded" section to the radiator. One of the diesel guy's will hopefully know for sure as I'm not really familiar with ol' smokey.
