V6 commodore conversion

I've heard that the commodore V6 snaps the crank at the flywheel when used in a 4b because of the extra stress, can anyone confirm this or is it just hearsay

I have never heard this before but the cams in the early VN engines have been known to snap.

off topic sort of - Why don't people use the sixes from Falcons. Always seem to be Commodore V6. Is it because the commodores is based on GM stuff or....?

umm just a guess here but the commy motor is only 3 cyl long and the falc is 6 so probably is too hard to fit

from what i know after driving both an AU falcon, and a VT COmmo for about a year each, i can see a few reasons why they choose the commo engine.
One is the fuel economy, the commo is oh so much better than the ford.
second it is a fairly short motor where as the ford has got some lenght.
the commo is alot more tried and tested. if you asked people who know about engine conversions, lots will say the commo.
many people will back the tried and tested products, thats why evrywhere i go i get told not to supercharge. it applies to all things.

Dont also forget that nearly evry conversion will need some bugs sorted at the start, so i guess the decision is up to you know.

I am heading back to Oz next week [I hope] for a few weeks and I want to pick up a couple of commodore V6 engines, wiring looms, computer etc to drop into my Willys Jeep. [1 engine for spares]
Can someone recommend good Holden wreckers in Sydney and/or Adelaide ?
Are those V6 crate engines still available - supercharged and normally aspirated ?
I emailed V6 conversions in country NSW and got no response !

as far as im aware, if your after a new COmmo V6 talk to a holden dealer as they will be able to order you in a few commo V6 engines, id also talk to marks adaptors to see if they have a kit avaliable for the conversion.

i work at a holden dealer in melbourne, your best bet for a crate motor is "baycity holden" in frankston. they have lots of surplus stuff.

there is a joint in BAYSWATER , Vic ( memory blank on name !!!)
that do up autos for 4wheelers !!!!
larger sumps(oil pans) & reworked valve bodies !!!!
turbo700 is a resonably strong trans to start with anyway !!!!!

I'm lookin at putting this in the patrol as i can't get lower gears for the MQ transfer. If i use the V6 and auto i can adapt a hilux or similar transfer and get some rockhoppers or duals.
The style of driving i will be doin is xrcc type stuff

why dont you look at adapting a gq box and transfer, marks does a kit for it i think, im not sure if the drive shafts will line up thou, i dont see why not, but at least that way you can get gq reduction gears chucked in.

I bought a GQ box,transfer but no-one does a conversion kit for it.Even had a guy look at making me an adapter but it wouldn't work
So back to the drawin board

Before you go to far talk to a few people at marks adapters and your engineer i seem to remember a problem with getting the V6 approved in a heavy 4x4 would not pass emmision output or something like that

Autos are very rare in off road vehicles here in Indonesia. Apparently they don't like being operated in 0.5 to 1 metre deep water for long periods which we do here on most trips.
Anyone had experiences with submerging an auto ?

in reference to the larger sump, holden make a deeper sump as a rework on the vs, and standard on the vt auto.you need to use the vt trans filter as well, as the vs one is too shallow.
