Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any experience dealing with Rocky Road Outfitters (US) and getting stuff sent over.

I'm interested in the 2in body lift for my '92 Vitara. All up i'm looking at $225 to my door. I know I can get the parts cheaper if I put them all together myself but I don't really have the time and the price of the RRO kit seems reasonable to me.

If anyone has heard of or used any other kits they would recommend, let me know.

Dealt with them twice and both times were hassle free. I got a locker and some parts for my transfer imported seperately.

I've heard stories but found them really good

How long for the parts to be at your door?? (which mail service did you select)

the best way for most stuff that isn't stupidly heavy from the USA is "USPS air"

Fed Ex are shiat loads quicker than UPS

I've had stuff sent using US Post and it is even cheaper and didn't need to do a Customs clearance and took just over a week door to door.

for anything that is worth over $100 you will have to get a customs clearance anyway: TOOL.

i have imported lots of stuff from the States. generally it works this way:-

over AUS$1000- you need a customs import agent

if it is sent via Fedex you genarally only have a AUS$250 limit before duty is charged. fedex is really dear i recommend USParcel post economy air which is reasonably quick

customs generally only collect customs duty if the value of the duty is above AUS$50- so if you work on a dollar value od AUS$400 you do not get charged duty unless you import it via FedEx (ie. courier)

I wonder how much they're upcharging the cost of shipping.

When i got my 2" body lift from them, it weighed almost nothing (3lbs maybe) and it was small like 5"x6"x6".

I live here in the US, but i've also had stuff sent from RRO to Oz before (a lockright). Never have had a problem with them, and i talk to them everyday here at work (ARB-USA). Their discount to me could be a little better tho.

Strictly speaking you don't need a customs import agent, it's just a bit easier. if you don't mind a bit of paperwork you can fill out a NAT 10 form and pay the duty/GST/process fee and handle it all yourself. This can be a little daunting the first time but becomes a piece of cake particularly if your bringing in the same type of item. Customs are currently looking at changing the system to make this substancially easier (read online processing) because they have been smashed by the workload generated by web buying internationally.

poly mounts. 2 weeks tops by air mail fast on their site. Quick I thought

What he said apart from needing the Customs Agent. You can do it yourself. I've used UPS before but it's a lot cheaper using the Post and not that much slower unless you're desperate.

Important point :
You need to specify "USPS air" ie United States Postal Service Airmail.
If you only specify "post" it will go surface and can take up to 6months to arrive!
Airmail is usually only a few bucks dearer than surface.

The kit has arrived.

It took about 4 days before I saw the money come out of the credit card, which I thought meant they had shipped my order but the next day I get an email from them saying that USPS Air can take between 4 to 6 weeks and for an extra US$15 they can send it through DHL which have tracking numbers and are much quicker. I replied saying ok send it DHL. The day after I get an email from DHL telling me the order has been picked up and was on it's way.

It took about 4 days for DHL to get the kit from them to my door.

I was happy with the DHL service even though I paid about US$60 in delivery. It was quick and I was able to track the package every step of the way.

My only complaint with RRO is that they really should include DHL in the options when you place an online order and 4 days to ship a tiny package is a bit too long IMHO. Not to mention the instructions that come with the kit are crap, half a typed page. Luckily there are more detailed instructions at Zukiworld.

All in all i'm reasonably happy with the experience. I would buy from them again, but if I do I will do all correspondence over the phone mainly because they're in the US and you lose a day by the time they reply to emails.
