I find one of these works best screws stright in to the to the tow ball mount and swivels a full 360 degress also have a hook to one side. Were going to fit two hooks, one each side but the spare makes it useless so I did't bother.

you can get a factory one that bolts stright on to these 4 bolts
Its a flat plate that has a hoop. I have found that they work well for a bolt on job :D

i can't get the pic to upload
its the 4 bolts above the towbar, the 4 on the chassie

I would say 83luxs blue bomber has been dragegd around by his Bro's 40!!

I have a solid old welded towball, but would like a big hook, or one similar to what shorty40 had on the back of his. cant find pic (too lazy)

dont mind the look of matts either.

Thanks guys. Great to get help straight away :D .

@Matt. Yea, I do a similar thing on the tongue on my tow bar but it looks dodgy. Its got a little to much hanging down for my liking. You know what i mean? A little to much leverage to pull the thing off.

@83 Lux. I like that idea, thats what I was thinking about doing but didnt know if I would be able to find a fitting to match those 4 bolts.

Cheers........HB

heh

you could get a bit of 8 or 10mm plate, drill the holes in the right places, then use a rated eye hook in the middle of the plate.

you would probably need to bore a hole in the cross member to clear the nut for the rated eye hook, but would mean you could do it yourseld.

I plated the rear of the chassis rail and bolted through two rated recovery eyes (Actually lifting hooks)

I can post a photo if you like

I measured up the bolting pattern of the standard recovery hoop on the back of a GU patrol (I think the GQ would be the same) and its a prefect match for the 4 bolts in the rear bar for the towbar on the 40. I just have to get one from a wrecker and put it on, but have also been advised to strengthen it before fitting to ensure safety as they may not be as solid as one would hope.

I'm just getting my tow bar repaired, where the little plug mount was, its caused some corrision, so I thought Id get two recovery points either side welded onto the tow bar(I have a HD 8bolt tow bar). I'm getting 10mm plate welded on around the recovery points, and Made it clear that the recovery points have to be SUPER strong.

I have a troopy and read about a guy who used a drop down tongue in a haymen reece towbar,(like mine) as a recovery point and the tongue cracked at the step and threw the tongue half thru a tree trunk after wizzing past a guys head.

I figure if I ever have to be pulled out myself(backwards), then I'm going to be really stuck, so I wanted a set of super strong points.

Getting the job professionally welded is costing me $60 including the tow bar repair.

I cant buy bolt on recovery points for that much so I think it is worth it.

(BTW I dont have a welder, and even if I did, I'd let this one slide)

When I get it back I'll post a pic.

regards Aaron

Cheers Aaron. I know what you mean about getting it done right. I've only used my tow bar for recovery twice and both times the other vehicle just needed a little tug. I wouldnt use it if I had to give it some curry.

@Ray. I signed up for 3rd rock but didnt see any pic. Am I looking in the right place. BTW, I liked the site :) .

Cheers.........HB

EDIT.. OK, I found the pic. Thanks guys  .
