Hi
I know this is a 4WD forum, but anyone here done a swap on the 2WD 2.2L Petrol Hilux motor for a 1G-GTE 2.0L 6cyl turbo? I have a mate who is about to start this conversion, anything he should know before he rips
out the old 4cyl.?
Cheers,
Bart

Not sure, I'll find out for you today, I think 4y-c.
N.A.M. - A few Q's
Was it a worked 1G-GTE or stock? Was it in an 88 model lux?
Did it snap 2nd's? Did it snap 3rd's?
Accelleration-wise, what would you compare it too?
Cheers,
Bart

seemed pretty stock to me
it was in an 85 single cab 4wd
snap 2nd and 3rds? sorry i don't understand
i would compare it to a slightly worked turbo s13/180sx or maybe r32 gtst
it was quick and revved hard
for a 2wd ute, just use the supra gearbox
i don't know if a standard hilux 5speed would cope

Nice one, sounds almost identical to my mates one.
"Snapping" gears refers to when you quickly and agressively change
through the gears, ie from 1st to 2nd, without allowing the revs to drop much, then dumping the clutch with the resultant revs to make the wheels light up and produce a wonderful "chirping" noise.
Slightly worked 180SX, that's more than enough power for starters. Hes
gonna Intercool it, High-Flo it, Exhaust it and Motec it. Should be a pretty
quick little low-lux.

hehe not sure about 3rd but 2nd easily
the rear tyres were almost slicks
it should improve a fair with with a cooler and an uprated fuel system

Allright, update on the conversion. It was actually a 3Y-C to start with.
Motor is now bolted into the bay, looking sweet.
There is a small problem, the sump and pick up had to be removed
for it to fit.
The W58 Gbox apparently bolted straight into the
crossmember and the passenger engine mount also bolted up,
but drivers needed some basic modification to fit.
So my mate will obviously need to get a tailshaft made to suit,
but does anyone know a good way around the sump and oil pickup
problem??
Cheers,
Bart

Can you Cut the deep part of the sump off and weld it back on again where it wont hit any thing.
Move the oil pickup into the bottom of the sump again by extending the pipe conecting it.

Will this engine bolt up against a G52 5-speed gearbox and fit on my existing 22r engine mounts?

ive nearly finished fitting a 1ggte to my 86 4runner which i bought of a guy in melbourne who had it in his 85 single cab lux.
if ur fitting it to an IFS hilux you will have to change engine mounts (bring them back 70mm) and sump to make it fit (see my pics) along with all the usual stuff involved in engine swaps. To fit it to a solid axle hilux all you need to do is slighty modify two left hand 3 or 4y engine mounts to fit. The 1ggte bell housing will fit any W series box so generally any 2.0 or 2.2 Y engine will have a G52 bolted to it. As far as it goes its a good conversion for the amount of power you will get from the motor.
