Bob-tailing Legalities

Hi all. As of tomorrow, I could be the owner of an MK SD33T Ute. It has had one owner, done 380+ kms, and has had new susp., brakes, and FULLY reco'ed motor + turbo just 50,000 kms ago. Originally looked at it for the motor, but have since decided to turn into a "play" car, and keep the wagon as a goodie.
So, the ute tub/body will be coming off (with its "back pack"), and i'll be knocking up a custom steel tray. The reason for this post, is cause I was thinking of getting the rear part of the chassis cut off for more departure angle. One of my mates GU comp truck has this done, and it looks sweet!
So what are the legalities, and what dollars should i look to pay (panel beater will do it)??? Any other tip/tricks?
PS. Will post picks as soon as things get cleared, and its in my front yard.
Cheers - Coxy
