As I am considering fitting 33" on the rangie I will need a conversion to 24 spline and fitting the 4.11 R&P which I have already and can sell for around $650 US.

I am conisdering swaping in TOY axles and diffs. Which Toy axles and diffs can fit the rangie? I know the flanged will need to be bored that s no problem.
i will need new differential cases as well no?? and off transmission sahfts as it is a high pinion.
I might be able to source used TOY diffs and axles from some junkyard in west lebanon.

Is it worth it ?
I have broken a lot of 24 splines on my disco that being said when lockers were engaged
Please advise.

There is not much point in swapping in stock Toy axles. They will break about as easily as the Rover stuff. CVs are basically identical.

You need to go with aftermarket shafts and CVs to get enough strength for the 36" tires.

With that said, the best route is to fit the Toy centers to the Rover housings with Chrome-Moly CVs and shafts. It has been discussed to death.

i wouldnt bother mucking around, as red 90 said toy axles are going to snap under locked 36'' as well, so if you are gunna play around with axles stick with consistancy and get some maxi drives theyll be stronger than any toy axle

you could fit 80series with 30spline chromo axles and cvs upfront ;)
and just carry spare rear axles and a front centre :D

I will fitting 33" tyres on the rangie and it will be unlocked for some time....
What makes the stock TOY axles comparable in strength to stock Rover axles and CV's given the fact that the stock Toy axles are 30 spline. they are thicker assuming material is the same

I have seen several FJ 45 and 60(I hope I am getting the series number right) on 35" with stock axles and they wheel moderate and high

4.7 Diffs on an LT 95

Has anyone fitted 4.7 Rover diffs with 33" on an LT 95 manual 4 speed gearbox, it is on my Rangie '83. I have a friend running them on his 84 rangie but it is a 5 speed gearbox.
I have feeling the truck will start in 3rd gear its ratios are already short on road with the 30" tyres and 3.54 CR&P. The rangie is to be diven on and off road about (50%-50%)

I have 2 4.7 Diffs in my junkyard but would rather get a feedback from someone who has tried it rather than go through the cost and time of dismantling.

Gearing will be too low for 33's. And rover 4.7's are not very strong.

Only one stock toyo axle will fit with a toy center conversion, you wil need 3 x jm custom axles - i think its a 60 series front long that can be used.
Landy man has 4.5 lux centers with 3 x jm and 1 toyo and arb locker in rear - his rangie will crawl over suzi!

The stock rear Toy axles are 30% stronger due to the axle size increase. Fronts are the same strength since the CVs are about the same size. Trust me, people break with stock Toys on 35s all the time. With aftermarket axles and CVs they are good to 36". My experience.... I lived in Australia for 5 years and wheeled with Patrols and Cruisers every week. I saw them break everything in the driveline from the gearbox back all on 35" or smaller tyres. One guy I wheeled with broke 3 axles, a t. case and 2 gearboxes in one year on his (shortened) 75 series with 35" tyres. He loved it. Any excuse to upgrade is a good one.

Minitruck axles are too narrow. As stated you could fit 60 or 80 series cruiser axles with cutting and weldng of all suspension bits, but you would only be a little stronger after a lot of work. Patrol axles make more sense if you are doing the stock junkyard conversion.

The Toy centers with aftermarket axles and Chromo CVs in the stock Rover housing still makes the best sense in my mind.

Of course, with 33" you can stay Rover with aftermarket axles if you are sane. I wheeled every weekend for 4 years in my Disco in Australia on 32s without any problem, zero breakages. The only mod was MD in the rear. I towed more Cruisers than anyone could reasonably count...... I might have even towed Ben once or twice,

Thanks for the advise. It made me feel good as I ve always tought Toyota can take 35on stock status.....which make regret all the times why I haevn't started with a TOY with all the after market parts avaialble and the reliablity of the TOY

I agree with John, the toyotas and nissans still break. I haven't been 4x4ing with toyotas very much but I have still plenty of toyota bits break - rear diff on a hilux with 32's, front diff on a completely stock (almost new) hilux with 31's, plenty of nissan CV's.

Nissan drivetrains are pretty strong (large rear axles and large diffs), but they still break plenty of CV's when used hard (but not much else). The same goes for toyotas, but the toyota driveline isn't as beefy as the nissan. And although the toyota diffs are stronger than rover I have been surprised at how easily I have seen some break. And the US guys with the toyota rockcrawlers with longfields and beefy axles are now breaking plenty of diffs, hubs and drive flanges.

You May have towed me John, but I have no recollection of it ever happening ;)

Ben

The toyots rockcralers with longfields and HD axles are breaking out of fatigue or Extreme shock load and wheel spin...

Going by ARB listings for air lockers:

Nissan GU and GQ fronts are 31 spline, 32mm dia.
Land cruiser fronts are 30 spline, 33mm dia.

Nissan rears are 33 spline, 33.3mm dia. (H233B diff)
or 34 spline, ?? dia and 37 spline, 38.4mm dia. (H260 diff)
Land cruiser rears are 30 spline, 33mm dia.
or 32 spline, 34.8mm dia (78, 79, 100 & 100 series)

Some toys (lux & 4 runner etc) have 27 spline, 28mm dia.

So not much difference between patrol and land cruiser front axles,
and some landcruiser rears could be stronger than some patrol rears.

and the Landcruiser CVs are stronger than Nissans, but nuthing is strong enough :)
