If any of you are unlucky enough to live or work in Moranbah then i can recommend mechanical services by Belyando Ampol near the Coal country caravan park.

I did a major service and overtightened the fan belts (at least that's what i think did the damage, take note fellow mechanical retards), which resulted in the water pump blowing the seal and pissing out water. In order to get out a 1HZ water pump the timing gears and tensioner setup have to come off. I had to go see Mark at the ampol (who i know from previous work) and ask for his advice. Even though he was busy he let me park the truck in the garage and offered advice from time to time. When i offered him some cash for his help he refused but accepted the offer of letting me come in and do some free TA work for him the next day.

All in all he is a great mechanic, and very easy to get on with. I can recommend his services anytime.

As an update. after all the talk about my fuel pump after it was reconditioned elswhere and i had a s*%t about the cost of it, it got as far as townsville and then started pishing out fuel again. i used 110 litres to get the 400 kays to cairns. I lost time trying to get someone to fix it as soon as possible (thanks northern diesel), the diesel, and an hours labour.

the chap at northern diesel said the pump couldnt possibly have been bench tested because the rear outlet nozzles weren't tight and the brass washers inside hadn't been changed. also the idle screw hadn't been tightned and managed to creep the idle up to 1400 rpm by the time i got to cairns. the main fuel line in also was routed right over the top of the oil filter bowstring tight. a very sloppy unproffesional job indeed.

i guess you get some good guys and some idiots i suppose
