Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have some Toyota 80 series Landcruiser 16x8 rims with 285/75/16 BFG muds that I want to fit on my newly purchased NJ 3.5 DOHC LWB with 50mm lift... (Haven't picked it up yet)

Question 1 - Will the 33's fit on the Paj?

Question 2 - Will the 16x8 steel rims from the 80 series landcruiser fit on the Pajero?

Question 3 - if the rims don't fit, how much does it normally cost to get a cheap set of 16x8 rims to fit the Pajero, so I can swap em over?

Current tyres on the Pajero NJ LWB are 265/75/16 BFG AT on 16x7 alloy rims.

Question 1 = yes, the 3.5 V6 has a factory 35mm body lft over the earlier 3.0 V6 plus yours has a 2" suspension lift on top of that.

Question 2 = yes I believe the Toyo rims will fit (6 lug) but I'm not 100% sure of the Tojo offset but I'm told they should be ok.

Question 3 = new 16x8" steel rims are around the $100Ea mark but you maybe able to get those 285's on the Paj 16x7" rims.

I'll get the guys down at the tyre shop to swap em over for me when I get the Paj, and see how it goes.

they will fit no probs, however if your in the market for some new rims i'm try'n to sell my alloys 16x8 CSA's if your interested

Are you sure your Paj is NJ? The 3.5 DOHC became standard towards the end of the NJ, but I didn't think they started fitting the 16" alloys until NK (or later?)

I tried to get my tyre dealer to agree to fit 285/75s to Pajero 16x7" rims, but he refused. He believes the beads come in too far with respect to the shoulders, and the sidewalls suffer as a result. I trust his advice, so (early last year) I bought Mullins steelies for $95 a piece.

I'm pretty sure they're Mitsubishi rims - but they might be alloy aftermarket jobbies.
They're not the same wheels I had on my NH shortie, and they definitely have the 265/75/16 tyres on at the moment.

It's definitely NJ - complianced 1996.

Will wait and see what the guys at the tyre shop say - I trust em to tell me how it is.

I have a NJ 2.8 GLX. with GU nissan rims and 285x75 MTR,s They fit perfectly and stay within the flares....and no rubing anywear....
The rims cost $50 each at the 4x4 wreckers.

I hope I'm wrong for your sake, but I reckon you'll have some rubbing.

Fitted 275/70/16 monoform muddies on 16x8 roh rims, (cruiser offset) & mine rub on the odd occasion, especially on/close to full lock. I have a 2" lift on my NL.

Again, I hope I'm wrong.

I think the difference is in the offset; Cruiser offset will affect your track significantly more than Patrol offset. I'm guessing they rub on the outside of the tyre, not the inside. Yes?

I have a suspision they will rub too. I had a set of 285 on ROH alloy Cruiser offset and at the front they rubbed without mudflaps on. Not much but just on the outside of the tyre at the rear of the front guard when on compression.

This was on a standard NJ 3.5. It wouldn't have taken much as a 255/85 on a cruiser roh steelie rim also rubbed but a 33x10.5 (same height) on Paj alloys don't come close to rubbing.

Right there Scott. Mine occasionally rub in same spot as NJV6. 265/75 or 265/70 would be no probs at all even with the cruiser offset.

I have had the ...285X75 M.T.R.s on now for about 6 months.....on GU patrol rims.....In that time they have never rubbed at all.
This includes an outing of steep rock escarpments,..both up and down,...that had a GU..GQ..and an 80series needing assistance.

They havent rubed the inner guardes or the outer guardes and I have made my own mudflapes out of industrial belt, and they dont rub...

I think that for larger tyres on the PAJ. ...GU Patrol of set rims are the go.

Your right Rob in regard to the patrol rims. Different offset from cruiser. I'm sure I could have bigger if I had GU rims.
