Today while out on a club trip a mate got water into his 2.5 turbo diesel Jeep cherokee. The motor kept running, though began to loose power and blow the dreaded blue smoke. He was ment to be leaving to go to the Simpson this Saturday thus is not very happy.

What do you all suspect the damage will be. Rods, rings, turbo or something else. Any idears will be welcome. Anything that may help us in determinating what it will cost and how long to repair.

Thanks

my money would be on the rods
the pistons would be trying to compress water which it can't....the water would have most probably pushed pst the rings as well, which would stuff them
did he not have a snorkel ?

No snorkle yet as they are only avaliable for the petrol model with the pickup on the pasengers side. There is ment to be some Air Flow snorkles on the docks at the moment, but it is a bit to late now.

The water was only knee depth so it is a bit disapointing.

Are you talking about the XJ or the KJ Cherokee?

It turns out that he is one lucky boy! After removal of the air filter which was full of water, there has been no water digested by the motor. With all the mud and water in the paper filter, it was staving for air, thus the smoke and ruff running. So it's off to the Simpson this Saturday.

Pipeliner it is a XJ.

ahhh yes - the dreaded jeep being towed Sunday!!

We were at the campsite when it came back - gotta thank your stars for a good air cleaner!!!!!
Mind you - I haven't got one on my 80 and was doing waist deep stuff all day sunday there.....

I reckon I'd be buying the snorkel b4 leaving for the simpson...

After seeing the air cleaner last night the water and some mud got through the air cleaner but not into the motor. I believe that there is a water sensor in the intake past the filter and the water did not reach that part. If it got that far you would have to be fast at hitting the kill button before the water did it for you.

Now if only the snorkles would get off the warfs.
