Upon the installation of a much needed starter motor, the first test drive revealed that the front wheel bearings were shot (no grease at all!!) The battery is stuffed too!
Does anyone know of a good wheel bearing place in the Sydney area??? "REPCO" want $80 per side, "Hi-Tech brake and clutch" want $60 per side and I'm yet to get in contact with "Advance Bearings" in Blacktown.
Do these prices sound reasonable for inside and outside bearings and hub seals for a 84 Nissan MQ Patrol L28 with discs on front??
If the wheel bearings are history then more n likely the kingpin bearings should be joining em !
Fit new locking tabs while your in there..... cost $8 each and they WILL ensure that the wheel doesnt fall off down the track !
Prices sound right and reasonably fair ( have paid more and got em for less )........... shop around !
A couple of the "auto groups" used to do a 'kit" which included everything for a full re-bearing and seal job to a MQ / MK hub, they sold for around $150 but I havent seen one for ages.
Will take you a Sat Arvo to do both front wheel bearings and kingpin bearings....... but $$$$ & time well spent in the long run

you can get wheel bearing kits and knuckle kits from Don Kyatt in Seven Hills, for a reasonable price, they are also often available on ebay for cheaper.
have lots of rags or shop towel handy. you will need a tub of LMM grease, a tub of wheel bearing grease, and fresh 80W90 oil for the diff. Prepare yourself for a messy afternoon. have a few litres of solvent to wash everything in before you put it all back together.
