Front Suspension Mods on 93 Feroza

Hey guys this is my first thread, got a few basic questions on the Feroza I just picked up.

Reading the modification guide, it says the front suspension craps out after 50000km, especially when extra weight is added over the front. The previous owner has added a big bullbar and a set of side steps. The front right shock is covered in oil, appears to be leaking so I think its upgrade time.

I rang TJM in Geebung and they've quoted me $459 for new torsion bars and $232 for a pair of front shocks, nothin special from what I gathered and $165 to fit it all up. Sounds reasonable to me, how bout you guys??

The other thing is its got a strange noise in the front end, might be the shock but I dont think so, When reversing out of driveways and sometimes on full lock theres a clunky scraping noise. Someone mentioned it could have been the steering stoppers out of grease, since greased them and its still doing it.

She goes to the mechanic for a checkup next week, just tryin to get an early start on a few of the hassles :D

Thanks for your help guys!

Cheers
Brad

PS. Does anyone have any advice as far as Dual battery setups go? I'd like an AC outlet in the car somewhere to run a small television and some lights on camping trips. Not sure what type of battery to run ect

Pardon me going off topic...
RB25 on a SilEighty....... sounds pretty gorgeous at WOT especially if it's running a screamer pipe. On top of that plenty of sideway action in that thing?

Yeah mate it was insane. Having an extra 100kg over the front wheels made for quite a pendulem effect, had Tein coilovers so it was quite manageable even if it was very sideways. Made 250kw at the wheels on 12psi. Was costing me too much money, blowing motors like they were going out of fashion. So sold it and bought the feroza, hopefully she'll be a lil more reliable.

That noise on full lock is the steering stops, get under there and have a look at the front of the control arm and you will see a ball bearing looking thing, now look where this mates to the back of the wheel hub.

This bit stops the wheel turning past maximum and as such causes friction. Give it a swipe of grease and all the noises go away, until the grease washes off and you have to do it again.

If you've got larger tyres or non standard rims then your tyres could also be scrubbing.

I 've beeen told that you do not have to change torsion bars unless they break, maybe put the money to something else.

Yeah I'm not sure on the torsion bars, im led to believe that since its got a bullbar, sidesteps and i plan to add dual batterys that the extra weight over the front end pre loads the torsion bars. This is basically like lowering a car with chopped springs and stock shocks. Eventually the shocks will crap out due to the extra work they are taking. Thats the sell the TJM guy gave me, said if i dont fit Torsions, just new shocks, the shocks wont last very long.

Makes sense I think.

BenDover: thanks mate! I just got it so im not real sure what hes got in there. The tyres are Bridgstone Desert Dueler RD-604 on 15 inch enkei rims. Fairly sure the suspension is standard. Front shocks are a red colour, one is covered in grease, assuming its fucked hence the new shock question :D

Croz: My mechanic told me the same thing, I greased em up and it doesnt make the noise anywhere near as often.
