Cheers beefie, and thanks for the msg screwy. That's actually less than I imagined! 78Nm is 8kg.m right, so on my half meter torque wrench, that's about 16kg of weight on the handle. Hardly swinging on it!

Anyway, I didn't have the specs when I put the diff back together, so I took a bit of a guess. My new torque wrench had ft.lbs on one side and I figured out later the odd scale on the other side was kg.m. From memory I set it at 64ft.lbs = 8.9kg.m = 87Nm, which corresponded to a fair shove on the end of the wrench, but nothing strenuous. I used the same setting for the carrier bearing cap bolts, which subjectively required quite a bit more effort because of the positioning.

I haven't filled the diff or put the cover on, so it's not too late to touch the bolts up. I'm tempted to leave all the bolts at their current 87Nm. I didn't use any loctight, but some was used on the crownwheel bolts by the last guy. How sensitive should I be to these specs?
