Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Am interested to se ewhat others have made up in the way of rear storage in their nissans. Spent the last few weekends knocking up roller drawers and false floor. Finally got sick of packing/unpacking wagon on family trips every time we stoped and the kids wanted something out of the back.
Any pics or info on hame made fridge slides would be much appreciated.

Here's a couple of pics of mine, the space behind the passenger seat is where the fridge goes.

GQTrav, Would there be room to sleep in yours with the fridge in it? sorry thread highjack, but looks like a good setup - to sleep and tour in without using a tent.

This is in the back of a shorty. Not quite what you were asking for, but thought i would share anyway!!
Sleeps two and leaves heaps of cargo room. Have since removed back seats for even more room.

They are all good ideas, I want to make something as well soon.

Hey BOB_1, my 40lt engel is too tall to be able to sleep two people in there, if you had a shorter fridge then you could quite easily. If i move my water tank to the other side of the draws i can easily sleep one person in the back behind the drivers seat.

I made my rails out of 50x25 mm galvinised box section from the local steel joint in Berwick. Bought bearings ( 10 per drawer ) from local bearing place in Hallam. Used high tensile bolts as axles for the bearings and flat washers with nylox nuts to get bearings in rite position.
Carpet, locks, handles and wood I got from good ol Bunnings. I don't have a pic of how I set up bearings but below is a pic of drawer extended showing box tube which bearings run on to support drawer. Is quiet strong as I can stand in a drawer with lid off and slide it back and forth with ease ( im 85 Kg )

hey dieselboy is that a rear seat in the pics?? if it is my SWB back seat is the whole width of the car???

I think it would be WAAAAAAY cheaper to do it with bearings and steel the way 0xyg3n described - very impressed with that.

Drawer slides are really pricey. Still, check it out and let us know prices if you want

as you come off princes hwy over railway line, they are down the bottom on left.

They weigh a fair bit and most likely would not move. I have used the origional seat belt lower mounting holes and put bolts in from outside into locator holes in the side of the drawer box. this stops any forward/backward and upward movement in the event of roll ext. Drawers are snug fit inside wheel arches so can not move.

I know, I think if someone made a few different sizes to fit the width of a few cars without custom fitting. They would make a killing.

What would the materials have cost you to make this?

Not a lot, it's labour mostly.

If you getting the measureing stick out I think you will find most of the full size 4b's are the same distance between the wheel arches (or close to).
As the draw systems I have for my SWB GQ. Where designed for a 100series LC, and they fit fine. The same draw systems have gone into 80series LC and GU Patrols. TO fit it into my shorty there was only to small mods. 1 drill some new holes in the mounting crass bars, 2 trim the lids on the edges so they fit.

So alot of the aftermarket ones will be the same, just with different lids. Which makes them even cheaper for them to make.

Yep no back seat. Its in the shed some where. My draws where made by RedDesert, but they have since gone out of that line of business.

Might be useful for ideas for someone, so I thought I'd put it here.

Thanks to Oxyg3n for the idea of using small bearings and steel runners, it works brilliantly and was cheap. I used 20x20 RHS as the runners and skateboard bearings with an 8mm ID, 7mm thickness, 22mm OD.

Here's a few pics of mine. Still finishing them off, have to get them powdercoated etc. Have just tested them out going through the Simpson and up to Alice / Ayers Rock .... All worked well except i busted the lock on the large drawer and have replaced it with two like the fridge slide has.
