Diesel Injector fault????

Hey guys,
What are the symptoms of a sticky/faulty injector?
I thought my glow plugs might be buggered but they seem ok after testing.
Car runs rough and blows smoke when cold start. Could injector be problem?
I also thought maybe air was getting in fuel line somewhere, Would this be possiable?

what colour smoke n what vehicle is it ?
blue =oil
black =unburnt fuel
white=cold
diesel

you may be getting injector dribble over night from the needle not seating properly on its seat,may be normal wear if they're old.just a thought that could help you.

I think you will find this is more correct
Blue = Oil
Black = Not burnt 100%
White = Unburnt
Is the relay system that controls power to the glow plugs working correctly?

It definanrtly could be a sympton of bad injectors causing a bad spray pattern hampering the atomisation of the fuel which is exagerated when the engine is cold. (heat helps atomisation aswell).
How long since injectors were done? If its more than 100K might be worth doing your injectors anyway.
Does it blow black smoke constantly while driving (when engines warm)?
Is the engine breaking down at startup (running rough, missing on a particular cylinder??)
It sounds more like a glow plug problem than an injector problem. I would start by checking your glow system out thoroughly with a multimetre.
Check that voltage is getting to all glow plugs, check the resistance of all glow plugs AFTER you remove the brass strip, (they should all be about the same resistance). Ultimately a dead glow plug will show open circuit.

I have checked all glow plugs and read the same resistance (.2) I have tested relays and seem ok too.
Smoke is white when cold. However does blow a little black smoke when driving in higher part of rev range.
Runs very rough when cold and stalls. Does seem to miss fire as well.
Car is jap import with 90,000klms. Not sure if injectors have been done.

check to see if the glow plugs are getting voltage after motor start
in some toyota engines they run for a further 30 seconds at reduced voltage after the motor starts
white smoke means the diesel fuel isnt burning. THe reason diesel doesnt burn is that it isnt being compressed to spontaneous combustion. Two things can cause this, low compression, or less than running temperature, or both of course.
I would suggest getting your injectors done and ask them to do a cylinder leakage test while there in there, or at least a compression test. You may have low compression on a cylinder for some reason...
