You wont get much of a GU for $20k. 4.5 petrols are now down to mid $20k's...

you should be able to find a gu for less than 20k and what you left over you can do small mods...
there was a 2.8 st gu for under 10k i saw with blown motor and for the other 10k you could put 4.2 turbo diesel in it with a box and transfer and spend around the 20k mark..........
you just have to think outside the square a bit and also contact maybe some large nissan dealer when they trade something that is of no value as they may just give it to you for around the trade in price.

I concur spend 20k on your GQ. At the end of the day you will have a much much better car then buying and already 20k GU that you no doubt will want to play with...
OR !!!!
win the lotto and import a SWB Gu from kiwi land or europe..

There is Pajero junior's in NZ too - god I wish our import laws were better.

Its funny, my mechanic mate who services my vehicle, and a hell of a lot of Nissans, has just moved from a GQ to a GU wagon and reckons its a huge difference.
But i'll stick with my GQ shorty forever....

GQ is a comfortable car without being so prissy that you wouldnt want to get mud inside.
I guess GU's are getting old now but still, I'd prefer to have a beater as a 4wd.

When it goes all cactus.. Stick a td42ti + gearbox out of a wrecked GU and you will have a td42ti + 4.6 ratios inside GU diffs all ready to run 35's - 37's....

Na good on him, hope he enjoys his car.. fuck we all hope that when we dish out $20k+ on anything....
I've driven one and only one 2.8 GU, and she were no space shuttle.

well done on you buy.
you will love the GU for its handling and comfort in the bush.
although you will find the 2.8 a little underpowered.
i own a 02 4.2turbo GU and its much easier to drive and much more comfortable than my GQ

We had a 3litre GU & retroed to a swb GQ, there's not that much between the cars except that the GU was a waste of way too many dollars.
