If you have a 4.2 and fit a 4.2 GQ box to it with the big rectangular plate on the passengers side.

What brand of which, and what model GU.
From an old thread on the patrol forum, no you cant, there is no provision on the box for it, but you could retro fit a box if your rich.

What he said. THe newer boxes don't have the plate on teh side. I am sure all of the necessary bits and pieces still remain..
Could you rip it a new hole and then fit it perhaps ??

Even though the box doesent have the hole for the PTO. Pretty sure there have been some gearboxs cut open and tapped to take the pto output.

Funny you should say that, After taking the high mount off my GQ and also getting a XD9000 with the car, I now have two winches and im trying to sort out the best option. The XD9000 is already fitted and works fine, the 8274 is in the shed, and probably won't fit in my standard bar but works fine. I want it to fit but im not that keen on cutting the bar up, I am pretty sure ( I rang around a bit) that nobody makes a standardish highmount bar for a GU and im not going to a tube bar due to the wandering emus, deer, roos, and cows around here. I was just wondering about PTO on the GU, thats all, I thought there was a cover on the GQ but couldn't see one on the GU!!

Between 1997 and 1999 Nissan randomly fitted the PTO capable gearboxes to GUs (mainly utes). You'll need to look for the plate on the side of the gearbox.
They must have been using up old stock, although Nissan originally said that the GU would have the PTO.

Nissan have a different part number for the ute box maybe thats why?

I have helped fit 3 of these now to GQs that dont have side plates, approx after 94.
You cut the hole in the box, the cast nodes are already inside the box to drill and tap for the PTO retaining bolts.
You need to face the side of the box to get the correct gear engagement
