Hi all...Ive got a 79series 1HZ with DTS turbo fitted.

The engine is using oil and blowing blue smoke from the exhaust, its definately burning oil by the smell. It blows blue smoke when engine is hot,and only when engine has idled for a short period like at traffic lites. When taking off from lites it belts out a big puff of smoke and then clears.Arround town it gets worse. On a trip it isnt to bad,but soon as you idle too long or low rev driving it oils up again. It doesnt blow smoke when on the highway at speed or under full accelleration.if the engine is idling and you rev it it lets out a little bit of smoke, but if the engine is under load like on take off it lets out a massive puff.

Its starts good on cold mornings, even in below zero temps,so i think compression is ok.i think it is either turbo or valve stem seals.but think its the turbo more than anything else.

The turbo has been on for close to 70 000klm

I need some opinions of what the problem is most likely,im sick of pumping money into this vehicle and dont want to pay to fix somthing that aint broke.

Definately sounds like stem seals. How many KM on the motor itself??

There is a slight chance the rear oil seal on the turbo is stuffed, but if this was the case it would more than likely blow smoke all the time if its stuffed

Hi all...Thanks slowlux,a bit over 60 000 klm. This is my 4th 1HZ engined cruiser and had them all with well over 300 000 klm and not a puff of blue smoke or oil usage.
