Early auto boxes circa pre 75 , eg Bw 35 pre 74 -
Question - These boxes came with a second pump in the rear ?
with this pump fliud presure was avialable to the box from the rotation of the tailshaft enabling the vehicle to be clutch started if the the shaft was turned to simulate a twenty mile an hour speed eg rolling down a hill /towed at 20mph,
Don't they have a one way clutch in the converter?
If the the motor can be started in this manner , is it not feasable that one of these earlyer prehistoric boxes would provide a simaler affect to a lock up converter in down hill decents be it with low enough gearing of course ?

powerglides
i've heard of the same thing with powerglides (very early ones) i guess it would work to slow the vehicle on hills aslong as it was spinning faster than the converter stall speed, or what about an auto with a lock up converter with a manual switch for the lock up (i beleve b&m make one to suit the turbo 700) or a allison auto (truck auto by gm) they can have retarders fitted to slow the truck down, can't remember exactly how they work but i think it caused a far bit of heat (large tranny cooler needed).
