bad straps !!!!!

Post by dirtyGQ »

Just a note had a black rat snatch for 2 yrs ,used it plenty of times and quite harshly in fact .......never broke .
Then got bogged mate came and helped me get out used his own snatch strap which he said was an opposite lock strap and broke rendered two doors ruined (which cost me) and was quite annoyed . Any one else with similar story on O.L STRAPS ???????

i always use my strap when im the one stuck, that way i dont have to replace anyone elses strap if it does break. I would say that the OL one just wore out, im sure 4WD monthly rated there 10000 kg strap the best.....

i've got an opposite lock mean green 10tonne 10meter and i've snatched about 500 times with it i reckon (no shit... i get bogged a lot!) and it still looks brand new. i am due to get a new one though, just becuase mine has probably passed its snatching lifespan.

moral of story: i rate opposite lock very very highly. ;)
indubitably

Would have been ok if it was worn out but it was a brand new strap from opposite lock and i didn't chance using my very old (but faithful) black rat strap, i have a just straps gold 8000kg now seems good .

im assuming u have a GQ ... what was the tow vehical?
snatching is all about technique ... different length straps for diff situations
angle of the pull .. blah blah blah .. to many variables to make strap break ... but u seem like u've done a few so i won't question it

if it was brand new ... diff story take it back and complain

Well full story was, went 4wding after rain (fun) 4wd all day came along to a muddy patch at 1.30 in the arv drove in with locker on an boom hit a wall that wasn't goin to let me further forward so tryed reversing and all the other stuff had mate there on a trailbike so he went to ring a mate of mine .
His mate showed up in a hilux and quickly got bogged so my mate came i was waiting ages and found out he got stuck in the entrance .
He had a winch and it would not work for some reason . After what seemed an eternity 80 series came down track and offered help .
So we hooked up mates supposed oppposite lock strap on to the rear of mates gu and on to rear of 80 series proceeding to snatch as i told everyone to stand well back.
The guy on other end was really taking it easy and wham snatch broke .
One weird thing is snath seemed to have no stretch , then checked damage mates gu door was in about a foot and 80 series was a dent the size of a football . $$$$$$$$$ i am paying for both cars to be fixed (good winch cheaper ) and getting my car out was the next stage .. i love getting stuck etc. makes it all fun but this was beyond the joke wife and kids getting impatient and all ..

Not knowing your history or experience. And not intending to offend, but are you sure it was a snatch strap and not a winch extension strap ?
